Nice. Although after the first part of your post, I was kind of expecting "The Chain". Or is the the proper (P Green) Fleetwood Mac that you're into?

I wanted to talk about Fleetwood Mac and couldn't find an appropriate thread so hijacked this one. Then realised I needed something relevant 😆

Nah, post Nicks/Buckingham. Buckingham is an incredible musician.

I'm registered for an open day to a university that specialises in music. I've been writing lyrics for a few years. Considering taking things up a level. I've got a friend who's an established rapper in Melbourne, has his own studio and booth, which I have use of free of charge. He's been the opening act for Australia's biggest hip hop names, toured with Ice Cube and Ill Bill.

I honestly don't really care for that in terms of what I want to do with it, more power to him for his creative success, but I'm focused on getting my music to a stage where I'd be open to others listening to it.

Thought I would give this little gadget a shout out.

I've had an Epiphone Les Paul for ages and I've neglected it for years as I've always preferred the acoustic, the problem that I have with electric guitars is that they are a bit of a faff, living in a one bed flat the volume is always a problem as well, I saw these on Amazon and took a punt on the classic rock one.

amPlug 2 - Vox Amps

Literally plug it into your guitar and plug your headphones or bluetooth speakers into it, it sounds great, for £35 it is a bargain, so much easier than **** about with amps and leads.

For the price I'd highly recommend it.

I haven't gone that far, but I have gone wireless from guitar to amp (I bought that Spark I mentioned upthread - it's ace). No more tripping over cables.

My old amp is absolutely **** and I was thinking about getting another one but to honest I'm pretty terrible on the electric so thought the £35 option is the more sensible one at the minute, if I can get myself to an acceptable level then I'll look into a new amp (probably a new guitar as well, I've had this one for knocking on 20 years now)

Have a look at the Spark

Any electronic drummers among the VT crew? Looking at upgrading to either a Roland TD17KVX or Alesis Strike Pro SE. I’ve probably spent hours looking at videos online, reviews etc. Both have pros/cons. Still haven’t pulled the trigger yet... scared I’ll make a mistake. 👀 Sensible option would be to go in store and try them out, but not sure where and with covid going on you can actually play them?

Hmm, interesting. I've had a quick look at the website and they talk about 10,000 different "sounds". Do you have access to them, and are they any good? I was looking at the Blackstar id range , but i might have to have a good look at these.

Cheers Nick

Yeah. You get a good variety of sounds just on the amp itself (acoustic/clean/high gain, etc.), but then there are hundreds of presets that you can access via the app (combinations of amp models and pedals) - you can save and download them, upload your own, etc. There's also the built-in 'backing track' jam feature - seems a bit of a gimmick, and I haven't much bothered with it as yet. Plus you can USB out to a DAW for recording (it actually comes with a copy of Presonus Studio One, but I'm already using Reaper). Oh, and it's pretty damn loud for a desktop amp. I think there are some YouTube reviews testing the Spark vs the Blackstar, so you should have a look at those.

Order both online, unpack carefully, test, send back the one you don't want. (Assuming UK online-buying laws are similar to Swedish)

I don’t have £4000 to get them both unfortunately!

I've been looking into these and I've gotta admit I'm extremely tempted, if I can get my electric playing back up to a decent standard over the next few months I'll definitely be investing in one. Only problem I will have is not buying one until I feel I'm good enough because I have the money in the bank already.

The reviews online are almost too overwhelmingly positive, the cynic in me thinks it is almost as if SPARK have paid the youtubers for positive reviews....but if its good enough for the MoonMan I'm sure it'll be more than good enough for me

I thought the same as you - wondered if it was marketing hype. But it wasn't just YouTubers, the independent sites (Music Radar, the various guitar magazines, etc.) all gave it five star reviews. I had previously tried a Yamaha THR5 that I borrowed off a mate, but wasn't convinced, so I took a chance on the Spark (hell, it's only 200 quid), and I do like it a lot. In fact I'm now looking to sell my old amps. Oh, and if I'd waited until I was 'good enough' I'd never buy anything. I'm still a crap guitarist, but I'm having fun. And new kit usually inspires more frequent practice, anyway, so it's a win-win. Treat yourself.
