Does the board even give a crap about losing Downing? One of our best players in the squad currently? I mean it's bad enough losing Young, but it looks like we're gonna lose Downing as well. We're going backwards big time.

It will be very difficult for Downing to replicate last season. I am not sure he has it in him. Hope he does though

i am not entirely happy about this appointment but last season, the better team - player for player (villa) didnt manage to win at all last season against a lesser team (noses) managed by Mcleish.

For one minute, it may have been his tactical nouse that managed to gel his players together to win it. At his disposal, he only had hoofball players so he used it to his advantage - playing to their strengths which is what I seem to recall a lot of people saying we should have done last year and not try tippy tappy stuff.

We have some players that can play both styles and so maybe he can play the tippy tappy stuff with the better players, against the more appropriate teams and when necessary, he knows how to mix it with the more physical teams.

I am yet to be convinced but we need to at least see what he can do and then if by Christmas it is not looking good then we should make feelings known. I feel we will finish top 7 next year.

Motherwell relegated.

Finishing Rangers outside the top two in Scotland.

Noses relegated twice.

What the **** is going on?

Or finishing 2nd with Motherwell

Beating MON's Celtic to the title twice

Getting Scotland into the top 30 rankings (including a famous win in France)

Winning Birmingham's first trophy since the 1960's!!

His SHA team conceded ONE less goal than us last season, which is pretty diabolical when you consider how shit hour defense was last season and how defense is supposedly his strong area.

This says it all to me...

Joe Hart had the highest shots-to-saves ratio (76.4%), though Ben Foster (75.5%) had to save more shots (169). One of the reasons Foster had to make so many saves was that Birmingham City won fewer tackles than anyone else (452. Wolves were the next flimsiest, with 482 tackles won). Birmingham were similarly impotent going forward: not only did they score just 37 goals from 38 games but they also completed fewer through-balls (14) than anyone else and won fewer corners (152).

So, the keeper bailed them out, they didnt tackle, couldnt pass and couldn't score either.

Marvellous.

TBH, think I'd be more pissed off about losing my bets!

Whos to say he won't do a good job at Villa? Yes, there were better options out there, but with the right backing and SUPPORT from our fans, good things may come of this.

I just hope Cowans and McDonald stay and continue to develop the youth players.

I'm sure Dalgleish will be able to get the best out of him.

people are betting on us to be relegated?

jesus christ get a grip that's disgraceful

Why?

I don't want it to happen, its the last thing I want. I'd rather not win the £400, but it looks like a possibility hence the shortish odds, and £400 would pay for a night on the beers to drown my sorrows.

Our last couple of wins this season pulled us out of the shit, everyone agrees 9th place is deceptive.

Young has gone, Reo Coker has gone, Friedel has gone, Downing might go, can't see Bent being happy to stay, can't see us attracting any decent players under the ginger one so how far exactly do you think we will be from the relegation zone?

I think Randy will back him to buy anew spine. This happens after every few years anyway. Remember Southgate/Draper/Milosevic or Dublin/Merson/James etc?

Goodbye Bannan, Albrighton, Fonz, Lichaj and Clark.. he will not give youth a chance unfortunately.

Hopefully Lerner will have driven home the importance of our Yout players in appointing McLeish.

McLeish is not my first choice to take over management of our club. Nor is he my second, third or fourth. In fact, there are probably a good five or six managers (that I thought we could get) that I would rather the club appoint. However, if he is confirmed, can someone explain to me how fan protests, empty seats and anger towards the manager and Board are going to help our position? I feel that we have no choice but to get behind whoever is appointed (as we should have got behind Houlier) and give him the time to have a decent crack. However, I think this is about as likely as us announcing Ancelotti as our new manager within the hour...

I'll back AM and the team but the board can piss right off.

yeh i guess we cant blame McLeish for wanting the job etc and hope he proves me very wrong.

But this is such a stupid gamble by the board...for so many reasons and still can't work out where the hell they are coming from with thisn appointment

Clark and Albrighton will get there chance. I think Clark may benefit from having a Manager who was a centre half. I am not sure the others are good enough

Not true. Lerner will have laid out his plan which McLeish would have had to agree to. This plan is allegedly centered around reducing expenditure. So even if we think McLeish is not known for giving youth a chance and even if we think Randy is tightening the purse strings by going all budgety on us, that still bodes well for the yoof because they become the default option. For better or for worse, I think they will get plenty of opportunity.

Even looking at his smug ginger face is making me angry, the fact that he has the gall to take the job......... **** off you ginger clearing in the woods.

I don't get where the guy has ever been smug.

We belted them 5-1, and he commented that we were on a different level.

We beat them 1-0 with (they claimed) a dodgy penalty, and he didn't make a big fuss.

They knocked us out of last season's League Cup and he didn't gloat or crow in any way.

The fact that people don't want him to be our manager, I get. What I don't get is the vitriol and abuse that is aimed towards somebody who appears to be an absolute gentleman both in and out of the game.

I appeal to all of the dissenters to accept what has happened, grudgingly if necessary, and give this gentleman a chance to take us forward in a positive way.

Can I back up what TT has said. I've been speaking to a stockbroker who had dealings with McCleish when he was at Hibs. He said that he always came across as being honest. A rare quality in football!

I think I also read somewhere that leaving SHA is the first time that McCleish has walked away from a club.

The problem is, most fans feel really low right now. The optimism and hope has gone out the window. It feels like a kick in the nuts. The team need to start the season on fire to get the fans back on side, a good start and the feel good factor returns. A bad start will mean a long hard season.

We haven't ever been IN with a shout of the top four. Why do people keep saying this. We should be happy to be in the top 6 (or 7 now really) and that's that. We wont finish any higher, its impossible on the budget we have. Plain and simple.

Forget Champions League, a decent cup and a few memorable victories is all we ever hope to achieve without a sugar daddy. Have absolutely no illusions about that.

So going back four, nearly five years ago when ONeill came in on a wave of feelgood factor, then Doug left and Randy took over, YOU NEVER thought top four was possible. Genuinely!!

You really must be Mr Negative!!

You know it may just be that the Birmingham City academy is nowhere near as good as our's and there was good reason for him relying on older pros.
