honest_bertie
How do we let Jean know about the offer?
BOF Posted August 15, 2012 Moderator Share Posted August 15, 2012 If he can't get a work permit here, how would he get one in France ?I imagine because Home Office rules would be different in the 2 Euro countries. Similar to how Brazilian newborn footballers can go to Portugal but not to England. Plus France most likely has a closer arrangement with Cameroon than Britain has, despite both Britain & France having relatively recent close ties to them. clintpigsaw
according to sources, makoun has indeed completed a move to rennes. Whether that is a loan or not is anyones guess. the rumour was mainly due to other clubs interests in yann m'vila, and makoun is his replacement. does m'vila go missing for months as well? AVFCforever1991
He probably has a french passport, he was there for about 10/11 years.
Pelle
He probably has a french passport, he was there for about 10/11 years. If he had there wouldn't be any problems with getting a working permit in UK. That wouldn't even be an issue.
SikhInTrinity
French have different rules I'd suspect on Non-EU players.
villaglint
It is now clear that the work permit was never an issue - just a story Villa put out to buy some time and try to sort these issues out. Rumours are we have got £6m for him - I for one would be staggered if that is the case. Surely a guy who has two consecutive shady seasons would be going on the cheap. However if we have done that ludicrous deal then doesnt that put us about even for the summer? Hopefully some money left in pot for LB, winger, striker and a DM if I'm being really gready
LockStockVilla
Saw this on twitter and it made me chuckle Maybe Makoun thinks he's still banned from that Blackpool red card...
SikhInTrinity
No way will we get 6Million, Rennes are skint, I think the confusion of 6Million comes from due to thats what the Mirror reported as us paying for him even though GH said it was 5million Euros. Ghost
I've got a funny feeling that Makoun shouldn't have any problems passing the French language test.

bickster Posted August 15, 2012 Moderator Share Posted August 15, 2012 Surely he could get French Citizenship?? He could have got that last time he was there under the 10 year residency rule, he clearly didn't, he wouldn't have needed a visa at all if he'd done that

fightoffyour Posted August 15, 2012 VT Supporter Share Posted August 15, 2012 Rennes loan :!: Well, saving ~£20k a week on wages on a guy that the manager doesn't know what he looks like or where he is can't be bad. Hopefully we'll get a look at Brahimi too.
