BleedClaretAndBlue
Dont think they will though. Was hearing he will stay at Juve another year as he has his heart set on Barca but they cannot sign him until that embargo is lifted (despite them signing Arda Turan yesterday who cant play until January)

Vive_La_Villa
I don't think it's a case of Delph not wanting to leave. I think it's more a case of no team yet to come in for him. If they make an appropriate offer we will probably accept it and he's gone.
danceoftheshamen
Thing is they just want him because of the need to have x amount of English players, they'll likely tell him he'll be a regular starter provided he plays decent which you would think he'd be confident enough of doing.... Another gonna for me. Shame as it kind of puts us slightly behind where we were last season if he goes already though with Vlaar a gonna and Benteke's situation still to iron out my goodness me we need to strengthen even to catch up with how pants we were last season and if Benteke goes too, with Cleverley having already gone we are miles behind even what we were last term! Concerning. Fingers crossed Tim has it covered either way.
jackbauer24
Forgetting contract clauses, ITK comments and other journalistic soundbites, if a current Villa player goes on the record and says he's been asking for advice it's fair to say that it's at least 99% accurate to suggest Man City have made contact and probably 80% fair to assume he's seriously interested in making the move. If we argue Vlaar is to be replaced with Richards fair enough. But who realistically replaces Delph and Benteke? We're actually going backwards this summer in my view.

AndyM3000
It forces the issue now, which can only be good. Delph/Villa/City will have to get on with it, however I don't think Delph will go there as a backup player. Woodytom
Yep Richards comments are pretty much a given that he's defo interested in what might be elsewhere. As for people suggesting I'm covering bases with delph. I'm not. I have absolutely nothing against him. Think he's our best player by a mile. I just don't fall for the loyalty BS where others have. And that's pretty much the be all and end of it. Since the end of Jan, I've never quite believed the loyalty claims.
PaulC
That release clause and what Richards said makes his comments look a little insincere now. and I don't fall for the loyalty stuff either. There is no loyalty in football. Edited July 7, 2015 by PaulC

tonyh29
I suppose it's possible from his comments at the time and since ( look at the way the 2 interacted at Wembley during the medal collection they clearly have a bond with each other ) that Delph's loyalty is to Lerner and the new contract was for him Lerner sells Delph may feel his obligation ends with it ? I don't buy that for a second. A big club comes in for him he will leave. No doubt about it and you can't blame the guy. The main thing for us is getting decent money and using nearly ALL of it to replace him. . I'd say around 25M.
Earl the Pearl
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/aston-villa-transfers-manchester-city-6022312 Micah Richards fears Fabian Delph and Christian Benteke could both leave Aston Villa this summer. Richards is just beginning his career at Villa on a free transfer from Manchester City but is worried he might not have new England star Delph as a team-mate for long, while striker Benteke could move to Liverpool. Benteke is expected to tell Villa that he wants to quit the club, though the Anfield giants aren't keen to meet the £32.5m asking price. And Delph has asked Richards - who spent 13 years at the Mancunian Blues - about life at the Etihad. “Delph’s been unbelievable for Aston Villa. Every player wants to play at the highest level,” said defender Richards. “He won’t want to go there as a squad player, but if he gets assurances that he’s going to play, then the decision is his. And if he wants to play in the Champions League... Neville Williams Fab captain: Delph was made skipper by Tim Sherwood “I wouldn’t say, 'Don’t go to Man City' because if he’s playing well, he’ll get in. Joe Hart plays every week, but he’s world class. “People think Manuel Pellegrini doesn’t like English players, but it’s nothing to do with that. If you are good enough, you will play. If Delph is going to be given the chance to play at Manchester City then it’s hard to turn down.” Richards revealed that Delph has gone to him for advice. “He’s asked me what I thought about the situation but I don’t want to tell him to go there and then he’s not playing and he’s ringing me up,” said Richards. “It’s a difficult season because it’s the European Championship [at the end of it]. If you find yourself playing only 10 games and someone else has a really good season, then he’s [the other man] going to play, isn’t he?” And Richards said of Benteke's potential move to Liverpool: “That would be a big blow and we’ll need a new goalscorer if he goes - he seemed to win games on his own for Villa last season.” I think Micah's comments were positive. He acknowledged that Delph is a quality player, and that he believes that he could be successful at City. More importantly however, he highlighted the risk of becoming a squad player and being left out of the European Championship. That has got to be a priority for Delph now that he's broken into the England team. He certainly won't want to end up like Jack Rodwell, or his buddy Scotty. Delph may be destined for greater things than Villa, but I believe that he's a loyal player and that he'll stay with us for another year, captaining the side valiantly and cementing his place in the national team. If he wants to move on to a top club after that, so be it. Can you really fault a player for wanting to compete for the title every year and in the Champions League? Hopefully we'll have evolved into a more balanced squad by that time and we won't feel the loss quite as much. villan_007
Still think it was a bit daft of Richards to be so honest about it though. No comment would have been sufficient.
samjp26
What I read from Micah's comments is: "If you think you're good enough to break the first team, go for it, but don't ring my phone when you're just a bench warmer and you miss out on the Euros."
Demitri_C
All Delph has to do is look and see what happened yo Sinclair and Richards he doesn't have to ask Like I said if he leaves this summer for city I think all that talk about loyalty and money isn't important would be b0ll0cks
Qwpzxjor1
What I read from Micah's comments is: "If you think you're good enough to break the first team, go for it, but don't ring my phone when you're just a bench warmer and you miss out on the Euros."IMO Richards has said the exact right thing for us. He's honest, of course playing for City would be good, but being on City's bench could ruin his career. I know players have to back themselves but surely Delph will look at this and realise he's not going to be first team. What intrigues me is that City is the only link. If that clause is true then why aren't more clubs queueing up for him? More chance of playing at Arsenal and Utd than City. If it's a clause for clubs playing in Europe then surely West Ham would have declared interest, he'd become their best player for 8m.. And they're not usually quiet when it comes to spewing to the media who they want to sign from competitors. The fact he's English and city's desperation for home grown players seems to be the only thing driving these rumours. If Delph wasn't English, or if City weren't so desperate for English players in their squad, would they even be interested? I doubt it. useless
He should tell him not to even entertain the idea of joining City, least of all if he's good enough to get in their team. We need players like that at our club and Richards needs to be playing alongside players like that.
mightysasquatch
wonder is Sherwood will have a word about him commenting on this. Club usually keeps very quite regarding this kind of thing.
