The Concert/Gig Thread

I was tempted by a gig in Cardiff next March... and then I read the small print.

All tickets admit two people, those two will be socially distanced from all others, you must remain seated during the gig, no singing.

It’s Alabama 3, that’s close to broken my heart that has, no singing or dancing at an A3 gig, no mixing with other people. That’s all kinda the point of it, dancing with the Hells Angels and random housewives.

Thanks, I’ll buy a CD and save myself £50.

Was actually just looking at gigs and noticed this as well with a few venues. Not keen on the idea of having to buy 2 tickets regardless of whether you are going on your own or not.

That being said, just noticed Primordial are playing Birmingham in April. Not seen them live since being exceptionally drunk in a field in Belgium about 10 years ago...

When normality returns, I hope these guys come to the UK and do some dates. I have lots of their albums including some quite valuable early stuff but I've never managed to catch them live

Now I've watched this, they've gone up the list from yes I want to see them to yes, I'll even take the neccessary time off work and travel

Edit: watched this all the way through and it really made me realise how much I miss going to gigs

Well you know, French people kinda do that. Quite a lot of their stuff is in English though

Yeah , not that vid, but I was YouTube watching about 2 weeks ago, some festival gig and the crowd was well into it, all those happy, joyous, communally experiencing live music people and I got a little tear I’m my eye. It seems like another life.

Funnily enough was watching ACDC live at the River Plate the other night and got the same kind of sinking feeling, unthinkable those numbers all in one place at once now

A couple of questions none of which currently impact me, interested more than anything.

Lets say I bought a ticket for a gig/festival from a person on Facebook. That event was then cancelled, I am right in thinking I have no claim to a refund?

Similarly, would covid hasten the death of ticket resellers due to the lack of protection for the punter following cancelled events, or is that not how companies  like viagogo work?

Took a plunge and ordered Alanis Morrisette tickets . It’s in October so hoping it goes ahead, which I think it may . Her Jagged Little Pill album was really good .

It'd be ironic if it was cancelled

The missus bought us tickets to see James and the Happy Mondays for November, with a night in a hotel. I’ve never been a huge fan of gigs in the past much preferring DJs and dance music, I can’t get my head around the whole seated arena thing. Music should be about jumping around and having fun for me, but I do like James and have seen them a few times before.

Before you ask, I won’t be sitting down :)

You’ll probably end up with The Mondays back at your hotel smoking crack and popping pills

That would be quite alright, just one more sesh for nostalgic purposes. I’d have given them a run for their money back in the day and I’m sure the missus wouldn’t mind (she’d leave me)

Having actually been backstage on quite a few occasions at Mondays gigs including at the Hacienda I doubt a pod of blue whales would give them a run for they money when it comes to MDMA consumption

Pretty ruthless by all accounts weren’t they. I liked the story of them being sent to Jamaica to clean themselves up whilst recording a new album. Not the brightest idea by the record company. They came back crack heads 😂

Well I guess the idea was that they'd just get stoned instead of all the other stuff they were doing but hey hindsight an that. The Mondays would find a dealer on the moon, either that or start snorting moon dust

I don’t really know how, but my brother ended up in a hotel with Bez whilst Shaun was on Big Brother.

They had a sports bag full of anything and everything and were very open and generous with anyone that wanted to socialise.

They have both had their own shows at some point haven’t they. Pair of loons and probably still hard at it.
