mjmooney Posted March 29, 2011 VT Supporter Share Posted March 29, 2011 I was deeply disappointed with both District 9 and Inglorious Basterds. If you want a WWII action/comedy, Clint wrote the book on that one too - Kelly's Heroes.
Genie
I've had Inglorious Bastards on my Sky+ for a few weeks now, seems like I need to get round to watching it.
villa4europe
i think inglorious basterds is a brilliant film, the opening scene is great, pitts italian accent and waltzs pipe is hilarious, the ending is a bit daft and as someone said the bar scene aint bad either problem is it automatically gets compared to everything else QT has done rather than just enjoyed for what it is

BOF Posted March 29, 2011 Moderator Share Posted March 29, 2011 I thought Inglourious Basterds was crap tbh. I thought Pitt did his utmost to ruin it with a ridiculously OTT accent & performance; and the fact I was told it was 'pornography for jews' before I watched it, I couldn't get that fact out of my head and it turned out to be pretty accurate. Rodders
I like QT, but the trailers for Inglorious Basterds just really didn't sell it for me, lookined like a really crappy irritating steretypical wanky over the top all americans = good all germans - bad WW2 film. Admittedly people who've seen say it's good and perhaps that's all irony etc, but I admit I can be a bit precious with films set then.

I thought the OTT acting fitted his character perfectly. Now Hitler being played as camp/crazy was a bit stupid.
Amsterdam_Neil_D
Inglorious Bastards, watched it twice now and still cant decide if its a masterpice or not? I would say it is. In years to come it will be one of the classic war films. I found it truly excellent. Watched it a few times now and the time goes very quick when watching it, always a good sign. Pelle
I've had IB for about a year now and still haven't seen it. I guess I'm a little afraid that I have too high expectations of it. But one day I will. On the other hand I haven't seen Godfather 2, yet, so I have a few to watch.

I think the film gave all the people a slight twist as it's a alternate world remember. They are all kind of caricatures of the real deal. Also, as we won we can make Hitler whatever we want. Camp, crazy and stupid are not made up though, he was all these and tactically clueless, a child could have won it for Germany at times. I just view him as a angry, unfunny Kenneth Williams type of guy that was so far in the closet he had the Narnia Times delivered daily into the back of his flowery dress wardrobe. He did have a fantastic honeymoon though.

Designer1 Posted March 29, 2011 VT Supporter Share Posted March 29, 2011 I haven't seen Godfather 2Put this right IMMEDIATELY. Planning to watch it, you know once I get a bit of dosh to spend. What's so classic about it? It's got everything that makes a great movie. Fantastic performances Superb direction Wonderful characters Memorable scenes Well written dialogue A very involving story Oh, and the fact that it manages to surpass it's predecessor which was always going to be difficult as GF1 is quite rightly heralded as a classic too. Watch it, I doubt you'll be disappointed.
Dodgyknees
I've never seen any of the films, do I need to watch 1 before 2?
Designer1 Posted March 29, 2011 VT Supporter Share Posted March 29, 2011 I've never seen any of the films, do I need to watch 1 before 2? Very much so. Forget about 3 though, just pretend 2 is the last movie and you'll be fine.
wiggyrichard
I've never seen any of the films, do I need to watch 1 before 2? They do follow on from one another, ie. 2 explains what happened before 1 if that makes sense? But they are all great films in there own right and could be watched on their own.
