Fate if the fast and the furious (? Not even sure that's right) has just had the biggest opening weekend ever $530m, absolutely insane

biggest international opening weekend was jurrasic world, this took >$100m more

I think it's a case of the lowest common denominator these days has sufficient disposable income to spend on going to the cinema - (to watch an inane film.)

That's mental! I remember watching the first one at the cinema and thinking "Meh".

They're ok and I do like Diesel and the Rock but staggered by the popularity of it all.

I've got a cineworld unlimited card so yeah I go a fair bit, think they've benefitted from a gap in releases (although tbf I bet most film studios now won't release vs them) this weekend you got F&F then Logan beauty and the beast and ghost in the shell which all came out weeks ago, boss baby and power rangers or I am not your negro, the sense of an ending or the handmaiden

I couldn't convince the missus to go see the handmaiden so we didn't go, F&F would be the alternative

beauty and the beast

its an ok film, in the same way that the cartoon was an ok film, its a bit of a strange one, it must be 95% if not more scene for scene with the cartoon, means it lost the "i didnt think this would work its better than i thought it would be" element that the jungle book had, opens it up for more scrutiny mainly because its not any different and i dont think it actually improves on the cartoon, some of the charm has gone with the servants / objects and whilst the big numbers are still great some of the massively auto tuned emma watson numbers dont

Wars dogs is pretty decent. Jonah Hill being himself as normal aside.

Think I have found my new love; Ana de Armas wow she is beautiful

I thought it was decent, and I wasn't bored, but I think that a much better movie could have been made about what was a really fascinating real life story. Maybe it would have been better as a documentary.

Agree on Ana, she's excellent :thumb:

Just finished The Girl With All The Gifts.

Pretty decent 'zombie/infected' movie filmed around the midlands.

Good cast including paddy considine, glenn close and gemma arterton.

Also great to see my mates daughter playing the feral child with the rat!

And I guarantee it's an utter turd of a film.

I'll watch anything the Rock is in, except that. I saw number 6 (I think) and it was one of the worst films I've ever seen at the cinema.

Watched "The Book Thief" on Saturday. Blogged about it here if anyone wants to give it a read ;)

Quote

The Book Thief is a story filled with tension and joy but, most pertinently, laced with tragedy and grief; yet the movie never fully exploits any of these emotions

Did you ever get round to watching Dead Mans Shoes? I can't recall seeing your opinion on here.

No I didn't actually.
I'm doing some travelling with work over the next couple of weeks, including a flight to the US and back and a couple of lonely nights in a hotel over there, so i should have plenty of time to catch up on a few films. That'll be top of the list

Guardians 2 first reactions seem to almost universally praise it as very good.

Also apparently has 5 post credit scenes.

So excited. The first is probably still the best Marvel film just edging Logan out.

Sticking strictly to the Marvel Studios stuff, for me...

Civil War

Avengers

Winter Soldier

Guardians

Doctor Strange

Iron Man

Age of Ultron

Ant Man

Cap 1

Thor

Thor 2

Iron Man 3

The Incredible Hulk

Iron Man 2

There's been a bit of a Marvel snippet blow out today, as the studio had an open day for journalists who were shown lots of behind the scenes stuff for upcoming films.

Waititi confirmed his cameo for Thor 3 will be as Korg, an alien from a species that looks like they're made of rocks - the character actually appeared at the start of Thor 2, getting smashed by Thor. Will be fully mo-capped surprisingly.

Brie Larson was shown in concept art in costume as Captain Marvel, who will be heavily inspired by the modern comic costume but more practical -less Spandex, more armour, and her sash is more utility belt. She was also shown battling something that looked like a Kree Sentry.

A jungle fight scene was shown from Black Panther which was apparently very cool and another fight scene in a casino with Serkis' Klaue returning (with mechanical hand).

And Ant-Man 2 concepts were shown with more 'whacky' giant stuff, including a dog chewing a car and Lang using a giant water bottle to attack villains. Also confirmed both Ant-Man and the Wasp will get new costumes (which is good because the Civil War version was a bit shit, especially at the retro style in the first film).
