Without Messi, Barcelona are so poor. He has carried them so far at the moment. Club needs a major rebuild and would remove a lot of players especially Pique and Alba. Look at this Richardsesque defending from Pique in the last minutes

even with messi they aren't that great, Valverde is a really poor manager who is lucky to still be there, problem is a lot of the players seem to know it

they have a decent crop coming through again after a poor couple of years, puig, miranda, cucurella, fati, abel ruiz, plus then with Arthur and de jong they have their midfield for the next 10 years, todibo, wague, lenglet they have a defence coming too

what they currently have is an aging squad with the likes pique, Busquets, rakitic, alba all needing to be phased out and a small squad with some badly bought fillers such as vidal, they have a 20 man squad where 4 of them have a combined total of 11 games, look a their bench last night rakitic, 2 young back ups (both defenders) and then 4 kids from the B team and then really there's only dembele and Arthur missing from it

Their wage bill is astonishing. It's pushing £350m a year as far as anybody can tell. When you've got dad's army on £150k+ a week then they aren't going to leave until their contracts expire because no-one else is paying those wages and new guys coming in are going to be asking for parity with the first XI. I wonder how much they've spunked on failures like Dembele and Coutinho.

Alexander Isak and Martin Ödegaard destroying Real Madrid away in the cup.

2 goals and 1 assist for Isak now + the first goal was from a rebound from an Isak shot. 2 great goals as well.

Kid is on fire atm.

Even 8 minutes of added time and a red card to Sociedad could not help Real get through tonight.

This is what you get when opponents and the ref doesn't read the script. Real will be furious.

Isak would've been a great pick up for us in the summer, two great finishes and he's developing into a fantastic all round striker.

Smart move as he could've easily just stayed and warmed the bench at Dortmund. Example of young player not just content to stagnate.

Arrogant idiots didn’t bother to insert a clause to stop him playing against them.

It's actually only the premier league that insists on the role. Pretty sure in the other major leagues players can play against their parent clubs.

A bit odd that he didn't celebrate. He's barely played a game for Madrid.

Rumor is he's going back there in the summer, a year early.

Yup, Isak was one I really hoped we'd try for last summer, such a bargain. As someone who has watched him a lot you could easily see what a huge development he had during the second half of last season

Apparently Dortmund has a buy back clause much lower than other clubs can get him for and are seriously thinking about buying him back

You think we could have gotten Isak?

Why would he choose Villa? Probably had a ton of decent offers in the summer.

Yes.

Because PL and our wage budget being astronomically bigger than Sociedad's who is a nice club but "only" finished 9th last season.

And no he in fact did not have a huge number of offers in the summer.

Insisted or otherwise it’s just plain common sense, I mean it’s bad enough that the loan system exists and is used in the way it is these days anyway (basically just a method for keeping an insane amount of players at the club), bloody stupid that one of your own players could conceivably cost you a league or cup win.

Yep Nainggolan scored vs Inter the other week, I am sure the Premier League its in the league rules you cant play against parent club.

Mirandes have been brilliant, outplayed Sevilla and Villareal at home in last two rounds. Only mid table in Segunda. Yes probably wouldn't have beaten either over two legs.

Hopefully they can make the final so Granada probably best bet. Could also be all Basque final.

I think La Real last won a major trophy under John Toshack in the mid 80s, not sure on Bilbao but think it's a similar drought.
