I am having a really annoying problem. My left foot goes completely numb after I have run a couple of mile. I have brought new running trainers , have the laces so loose that my shoe nearly falls off & wear thin socks. This is really pissing me off now. Any ideas how I can get this to stop

Go to the doctors.

Seriously.

Ok so I completed a 22k run today which I was pretty proud of, I'm also doing the Birmingham Half Marathon so now I've got a few months to bring my time down. One thing that concern me is that my knee are always sore during running, even doing 10k runs and the like. Anyone got any tips apart from the obvious of doing less road running?

Other than the obvious, not really. If you can get off road, do - it's also great fun!

I do try to. There's quite a few runs along the Mersey which I've run before however with the weather being so horrific this summer most of the time any cross country runs are no-nos as they are too boggy.

No problem.

Aches and pains etc are one thing, but numbness is a different beast. I'm no expert, but I know that's not a good sign.

Good luck, hope they sort it out quickly :thumb:

  • 3 weeks later...

I started running the other day. Just trying to do a bit after each weight session to warm down and burn a little more fat.

Problem is I get stitch quite quickly (usually after 5 minutes of running) which I assume is to do with my breathing. I suppose I'm not really concentrating that much on it when I should be.

I've tried to concentrate and do 3 steps breathe in, 3 steps exhale and it worked a lot better, still struggling a fair bit though. Any pointers to get better as I kinda like running.

My left foot also turns in slightly when placed in front of me, is that normal? And stupid question.. but heel-toe yeah? When I first started I was flat footing it which gave me harsh shin pains.

Well, bad news. The steroid jab worked for a few days, but three weeks on, with just normal everyday walking, the PF pain is right back where it was. Fuckitty ****.

In my own less than expert opinion.

If you get stitch, you're running too fast for your fitness. Slow down.

Everyone's gait is slightly different, lots of people are different on either foot, don't worry about it.

Just run like whatever feels natural, but if you get shin pains you more than likely aren't being supported enough with your running shoes. Try some Asics GT-2160s

I was running in some indoor football shoes for a while and my right knee was getting sore. I went into one of those running shops where the video your feet when you run and it turns out my right foot rolls inwards.

I got a pair of shoes with a firmer arch which stops the rolling and my knee hasn't been sore since.

It could be something to do with running style?

What kind of stores do this? I'd definitely be interested in getting some proper running shoes that fit my feet.
Any specialist sports shop (i.e. NOT JJB Sports and the like). They should have a treadmill to check out your gait.

Expect to pay between 50 and 100 notes for a decent pair of running shoes.

Incidentally, there was a Panorama a couple of weeks back about sports products and one of the things on there was running shoes.

They basically concluded that those special fitted shoes you get from those stores are bullshit, and as long as your running shoes are comfy, there's no added benefit to having them specially fitted or picked out or anything from these sports shops.

I wasn't entirely convinced on the programme as a whole to be honest, and you could argue that getting your shoes from a store like that will ensure that they're comfortable, but worth thinking about.
