Ah, okay Martinez is ill.

If he was well enough an hour ago to be selected, you'd hope it's nothing too bad.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. If it's just this game he's missing then not too much to worry about.

People were calling this a free hit and now are upset we aren't going full strength.  Which one is it?

We knew we would lose, but the goal difference is now at serious risk with that line up.

Martinez, Pau, Mings, Kamara, McGinn, Ramsey, Bailey, Watkins (that is 8 players) would all be part of our best 11 for a lot of us and none of them start tonight either through injury, illness, suspension or being rested.

I'd say a result tonight, even a draw, would be up there with our best results in a long time given who we have out.

What’s happened to Martinez? He’s in on the bbc. If he’s ill he’s bottled it as far as I’m concerned.

if Olsen is in we may as well throw the game.

The frontline could be quite exciting to watch - Duran, Rogers, Zaniolo and Diaby will be a handful for anyone.

Some welcome positivity. I’m looking forward to seeing this set of players, although would have felt more confident with Martinez.

City have Haaland and KDB on the bench

Yes but you can’t seriously be suggesting the defending champions with a billion pound squad resting two players and replacing them in the lineup with £150m worth of talent is remotely the same thing as us resting half our team.

Or can you?

I don't think the goal difference is likely to be a differentiator. If Chelsea win tomorrow, it's hard to see United catching us on points.

Martinez out through illness so not the end of the world.

Teams are resting players all over the place for this round, particularly the sides in Europe. City and Arsenal are in the title race and have benched the likes of Haaland, KDB, Rice etc, so I don't think it's that much of a shock Emery has done similar. It's also worth noting that we could feasibly still be in the game with, say, an hour gone, in which case bringing on Bailey and Tielemans could be real game-changers.
