if they can prove no sports betting then any chance of a slap on the wrist?

Probably not... extract from the article of law they were arrested under doesn't seem to care if its sports betting or not... but I'm not a lawyer and it's not very clear

Quote

Anyone who illegally carries out the organization of lottery games or betting or prediction competitions which the law reserves to the State or other concessionary body, is punished with imprisonment from three to six years and with a fine from 20,000 to 50,000 euros . Anyone who organizes bets or prediction competitions on sports activities managed by the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI), by organizations dependent on it or by the Italian Union for the Improvement of Equine Breeds (UNIRE) is subject to the same penalty. Anyone who illegally carries out the organization of public bets on other competitions of people or animals and games of skill is punished with imprisonment from three months to one year and with a fine of no less than one million lire

Apparently they are chasing a 3 year ban. I dont think players should be as harshly punished when the employer is allowed plaster shit gambling sponsors everywhere but they are the rules

We will probably terminate the deal in January if guilty.

The problem is that we really need him on form between now and January.  With this hanging over him, he's not going to be in the right form of mind to be playing at the highest level.

This is getting messy.  So he’s broke the law for gambling in Italy but has he broken any football laws?

Seems harsh to ban a player from his livelihood for playing a game of poker.

Seems harsh. Imagine getting banned from your job at Tesco because you played a game of poker 😂

He reportedly bet on Roma games while he was playing for Roma. That’s more than just playing a game of poker.

Well yes if this turns out to be true then he will rightly be banned. I was talking about the recent news of him confessing to playing poker.

Poker is legal but regulated and the prosecutor said illegal gambling. Italy has a match fixing history and wrong lost bet can lead a player into the wrong hands

Italy have won many tournaments during similar scandals. Him and Tonali will thrive on it 😂
