Popular Post wishywashy
Nice interview in MARCA. Nothing too ground-breaking, but the focus is Villa. https://www.marca.com/futbol/premier-league/2023/08/05/64ce4374268e3ebe4d8b45b8.html Quote QUESTION: Monchi wearing a polo shirt that is not Sevilla's? ANSWER: It has been a very important change in my life. I've left a club where I've been practically all my professional career to a new championship and a new club. The impression I had before taking the step, when we contacted Damià and Unai to see what possibilities there were to get to Birmingham were good, once I have arrived I am very happy. There are enough tools to try to build a nice project. There is a good base from last year, from the time when Emery arrived. We have to take advantage of that base and the confidence of the coaching staff to shore up the project and continue to grow. QUESTION: When Unai arrived the illusion was unleashed in Birmingham .... Can you fight for the Big Six? ANSWER: More than fighting, the first thing to do is to settle down and build a base on which to start climbing. I'm not a big believer in overnight climbs. That causes big falls. We must shore up and give solidity and guarantees to what we have built. The goal must always be the highest possible. The higher we aim, the higher we can go. But always with coherent arguments and without selling smoke. Q. How does your job change with more economic joy? A. You have to nuance it a bit. In the Premiership it doesn't rain money. There are also clubs with problems. There are rules to follow and regulations. What we are trying to do is to be ambitious while maintaining sanity. My role changes a bit because with Unai Emery as the maximum reference point and from there Damià and I are managing the day-to-day running of the club in sporting aspects. We are at a club with a greater investment capacity than Spanish clubs have, but we can't go crazy. We have to comply with the Premier League and UEFA. Q. Did you take your notes from Seville? A. I can't erase the RAM memory as if it were a computer. I have the knowledge that I have been acquiring for a long time. I have been surprised at the capacity to handle information and the database that Aston Villa has. Beyond my training, which I have and I am sick of my job and knowing players, what I have found here is going to be very useful for me. There is a good data and scouting department. It is very useful for the future. Q. And working with Emery at the helm? A. Damià and I have an advantage, we have both worked with Emery. Me at Sevilla and him at Valencia. We know what he is like. Unai is not complicated because we are very close. We don't have regular meetings, but we have breakfast together, we eat together, we have our offices next to each other. We get to know what Unai needs on a day-to-day basis. He marks the profiles and the style of the player and we give him names and he evaluates and we come to the conclusion and we sign. Q. Will the new Aston Villa be more ambitious? A. Unai has imbued the team and the structure of the club with the ambition that he has. The manager likes to manage everything that happens in the first team. That 24-hour thinking about taking care of the small details has brought him into the club. We start with the advantage that it is an ownership that trusts the work of Unai and the professionals. And that is an advantage. Unlike Spanish clubs, in the Premier League powerful investors are coming in, but they are used to delegating and controlling and we are a privileged club in that respect. Q. Where is Aston Villa heading in this market? A. We are active to give depth to the squad. If we get through the Conference qualifiers we can have 55 games this year. We are moving things so that Unai has the maximum arguments. 8
villabromsgrove
That is a very good article. It confirms what we've been saying on here about the need for adding the right depth and abilities for a possible 55 game season. It also confirms the endless conversations between three people about Emery's identified requirements, and the huge available depth of data for Monchi and Damia to sift through in identifying the right targets to present to Unai.
