Nice gap over West Ham still intact. We can't fumble this.

2009 says hello 🤣🤣 wasn't we 7 points clear of Arsenal who were 5th. Finished that season 6th...

‘Tis true. But in 2009 we had a manager who ran the legs off the same 11 or 12 players, thought Heskey was our answer to Arshavin and played a rather one-dimensional style (as exciting as it could be when it worked).

We were about 12 points ahead of Everton and finished a few points behind them. Talk about collapse

Because MON is a muppet. Can't compare to Emery

Don’t we have the hardest run in? And essentially the easiest Christmas schedule. Feel like we’ve dropped a lot of points.

We play better against better teams. Have beaten 6 of the top 10

The lack of belief in Villa is really surprising.

Even in this supposed poor run for us we have 11 points out of 18, Arsenal 7, City 13, Liverpool 14, Spurs 13.  So yes we’ve dropped a couple of points but if this is our bad run, we aren’t doing that bad.

I trust in Emery, especially with Torres and Tielemans back from injury, Kamara back from his three game ban and then the likes of Moreno and JJ getting match fit plus we’ve had a 12 day break.

We’ll get back to our ~2 points a game which’ll get us Top4 imo.

Generally Emery seems to learn from these bad runs too, so hopefully we see some development against these low blocks going forward.

I’m still bitter about Arsenal being allowed to sign Arshavin two days after the January window closed and him firing them to CL that season.

Mate it’s realism, an injury to any one of four players and we are screwed.

also 5th might not get CL this year it’s more precarious than many think

All comes down to the second point for me - I think we will finish 5th (comfortably, by a distance from 6th) so time to support all the English teams in Europe this season!

On that, say if Brighton won the europa but finished 9th, they would get a champions league spot.

If it goes to 5 places and we finished 5th, would we miss oit?

It's because we've not played well since the man city game. It's concerning.

Not played well but still got 11 points in 6 games since that Man City game and through to the next round of the cup.  So when not playing well we are still getting results.

Our playing hasn’t been great but we are still grinding out results but missing key players during that period who are all back in time for the Newcastle game.

Getting results when in a period of poor form is a good sign if we then can start playing well again.

If by the end of Feb we are still playing poorly with all our players back I might be concerned especially as we’ve had a winter break but not at the moment.

That's good of course, but the results we've picked up since Arsenal won't be enough to get us Champions League.

We need to lift it.

Since Arsenal we've taken five points from four games, that's our worst run this season from a four game spell, but it's not something to be particularly worried about, Champions League qualifers Arsenal, Man Utd, and Newcastle all had two spells last season where they took less points than from a four game period than we have taken in the four games since Arsenal, going on a little run like that once or twice a season is normal for all teams unless they're showing Man City/Liverpool at their best type consistency.

Spurs this season had a run where they took just one point from five games, maybe they won't go on a run as bad as that again, but they will have furthermore spells where they drop points, they aren't going to be consistently brilliant.

This is true

It comes down to whether you believe that our current form is simply a dip brought on by tiredness and missing players and we've done well to get as many points as we did. Or that it's a sign of teams finding a way to prevent us from playing as we were doing. Or a bit of both.

Seems pointless worrying about it so I'm choosing to believe Newcastle is going to be the start of a ten game winning run
