lexicon
The run we had in Europe this year was really important and will have taught the players what is required to challenge in so many games. Newcastle didn't have Europe the season they finished 4th, which makes what we did a bigger achievement.

I Make Pies
We have scored 76 goals this season with one game to go. The last time Man Utd scored that many was 11 years ago until Alex Ferguson.

Plus add in the fact that we've dropped 7 points all season in matches where we have taken the lead. Arsenal are the only other team who have dropped less than 10 points (9) and Man City and Liverpool are the only other teams (both 10) who haven't dropped at least double the number of points we have. Edit - On checking this Fulham have also only dropped 9 points from a leading position and Wolves also just sneak under the double points thing (13).

Two of those came when we were getting thin on the ground!

We've also now comeback in more matches when we've fallen behind than not - we've gone behind in 19 matches and only lost 9 of those (4 wins, 6 draws). The 18 points gained from a losing position puts us 6th in the league. Interestingly, Liverpool and City are ahead of us (as are Spurs and Chelsea) so Arsenal are the only real outliers having only fallen behind in 9 matches this season and only recovered points in 4.
allani
All of which is why I got / get so heated / annoyed / frustrated about people moaning about "points we've thrown away" or our players "bottling it on the big games" (even though we've got the best record in the Top 4 mini-league of any team). There's pretty much nothing that supports such claims and yet they seem to be trotted out for fun at the slightest whiff of a poor result / performance. Just as an example Newcastle have been behind in 20 matches this season and gained 10 points from those matches (almost half our return from 1 match more) and have dropped 17 points from matches in which they have taken the lead (well over double the points we've lost).
