Match Thread: Villa v Newcastle

Watkins is giving the CBs a right battering, I fancy him to score today. Newcastle will attempt to change the game now, we just have to keep our concentration and ideally get another goal. I trust Emery to counter whatever Howe can come up with.

2nd half we need to start fast again, then if we can get another goal, swap to our more used slow passing at the back, then as they press, the long ball over to Ramsey or watkins.

Very unlucky to only be one up and for there not to have been 2 or 3 yellows for their players.

If they put wilson on, keep playing how we are as they will be higher in the press.

We look so well drilled.

Watkins, finishing and awareness improved.

Mings, passing improved.

Digne has improved into a Moreno

McGinn looks like McGinn of old

But the MOST noticeable improvement has to be Martinez’s passing.

It’s almost as though someone FINALLY thought to look at the weaknesses of our players and work on those.

So simple, yet no one seemed to manage it before Unai.

Definitely one of our most impressive halves of the season, just lacked that 2nd goal to stop it being perfect.

Tactics again spot on from Emery, adding Donk to solidify centre which has given Buendia loads of freedom and Ramsey also able to get forward a lot supporting Watkins. those 3 all excellent, along with Moreno and McGinn supporting wide.

Defence has managed well against the high press, just fell asleep on one cross which could've been costly.

Newcastle will have to go for it 2nd half, expect they'll throw on Wilson up with Isak before too long, which will be dangerous combo but that should also give us breaking opportunities.

They clearly also have a gameplan to always leave their foot in on the tackles wherever they can, and ref completely letting them get away with it. 2 or 3 more should be on yellows which would stop this, but they been given free reign to hack.

As mentioned earlier.

Unai has turned the tactics Howe will have studied over on it's head.

Instead of slow, laboured build up, it's intense buildup and long balls blowing them away lol.

Rattled

Howe looked like he was going to cry at one point.
