Summer Transfer Window 2023

I'm keen to see what forward we get in the summer. I really don't have a clue what type of player it'll be. It could be a player who is direct competition for Watkins a pacy goal scorer. It could be a wide forward who can also play centrally akin to Salah (this is more likely). It could be a forward who drops deep from the front line like Buendia is doing or the "false 9" type player.

I think it'll be a signing who can play with Watkins or in place of him, so a wide / inside forward.

Watkins is like our Kane. Plays every minute. We're not spending big money on forward to sit on bench as competition for Watkins. Will probably be wide forward but I think we'll make 2-3 signings maybe not a boat load like some want. We have good players like Archer Ramsey etc that might be recalled.

Yeah be interesting if Philogene gets a look in too. Just go big big on 2/3 players. If we are in Europe will need some kind of squad to rotate though. So limited for options right now.

Emery said he wants to buy a striker just last week.

Not a wide forward or winger in that quote but he said striker which obviously is a certain position.

Given what he said in January and recently, he’s after somebody that’s more ready than Duran but it’s unknown more than that for us.  It could be similar to Ollie or a different style of striker but what we know is that he wants a striker that’s  more of an option than Duran.  This suggests it will be a quality player doesn’t it!

So it will be big money unless it either a young prospect (which unlikely given Emery’s comments about being more ready about Duran and we have Archer) or an older player towards the later part of their career or a free transfer.

But, again, he said striker not forward or wide forward or winger.  I assume he’s after more than just a striker in the transfers this summer obviously but he has said he wants a striker.  So it’s likely to be decent money at least.

We absolutely are spending on a forward. Watkins is in incredible form, long may it continue, but he isn't Kane.

Plus we play with two forwards. There'll be somebody in the Bailey role, who'll be our main forward signing, that is able to play with (or instead of) Watkins if needed.

Hopefully Buendia can make that role his own, in the way Emery used Ever Banega there during his time at Sevilla. But even Banega used to get used in the midfield like Buendia has been recently until the Newcastle game.

We need a striker and Emery has said we're after one, as great as Ollie's form is, we can't rely on him to remain injury free (just because his injury record is great so far) and to stay in this form forever.

Buendia looked much better in that role than Bailey has at any point. With Ramsey and McGinn cutting in from either flank, it was like a narrow 4231. If we want someone to fill that role, they have to be able to play as a 10, Bailey can’t.

Think that's why we'll sign somebody though, at times, the Ever Banega role needs somebody to drop into the half spaces like a 10 and go from 442 to 4231.

At other times, it needs somebody else holding up play or drifting wide and making space for the other striker to do their thing.

Emery uses that role in both ways and has done for a long time. Buendia cannot do both and Emery has favoured Bailey there (even when out of form).

I think we'll continue to see Buendia there but we'll also see him play in the midfield 4 with a new striker along side Ollie.

We'll then switch between;

  • Ollie & Buendia
  • Ollie & New
  • New & Buendia

With (hopefully) Archer, Duran and maybe Aaron Ramsey rotating for minutes in those roles. As well as Bailey/Traore assuming they stay

Why do people on here have a hard-on for Neco Williams?

What am.I missing?

The wrong player perhaps?  It’s Nico Williams, a Spanish Winger/Forward that we were linked with in January.

Kind of being thinking that maybe just maybe we look at our defence more than the midfield and attack. Obviously bring in an attacker but concentrate on our defence.

New back up leftback ... Merlin ? . Will be difficult as Digne will want gametime but also he is on a massive contract. He will have to choose what he wants to do.

New back up centre back ....Jacob Greaves from Hull 22 yrs old

New right back ... Obe Wan Bissaka who would fit perfectly into an Emery system.

Back up gk .... Dubravka ?

Then blow the rest of our dough on an attacker like Nico Williams or Goncalves

Plus bring AJ in to compete with JJ  on the left . That would be really interesting to see family competing for a position. Also they offer different skill sets. AJ better against a low block  JJ better on the transition.

And finally bring Tim back to compete in centre mid.

If we then sell a few of the sellable youth and then the likes of Bailey Chambers Naka and Sanson we could do that business for a net of £100 mill including the Jan signings.

Ridiculous figures but lowering the average age of our back 4 might be something that is needed. At the mo we will have Moreno Digne Mings Carlos Young Olsen and Martinez all 30 or over at the start of the season.  Very quickly it could become an issue if we arent really careful.

Huge amount of talent avaliable on a free this summer. There must be 1 or 2 we can get who are big realistic upgrades.

Raiding the German league for 2 or 3 such as kamada, ndicka, laimer and thurman would give us 4 top players covering

Striker/ inside forward

Attacking midfielder

Central midfielder

Centre half

Thuram is on 80k pw so his wages would be 125k pw

Kamada is on low wages so even 80k pw would be a big increase

Ndicka is on peanuts so again 50k pw a monster increase

Laimer is on 40k so 80k pw

Not saying we should sign them all but must be worth a good look as they are some talented free agents who apart from thuram are not on big money.

More links to Nico Williams who El Mundo also link to Wolves (lol) and Liverpool.

Not disagreeing with your point overall and j like the players you name but not sure of the logic here. His (or anyone’s) wages will be the best someone offers him based on the competition from other clubs, not what he’s on now…  125k would be a nice increase for him for sure, but I can see other PL clubs also offering him that or more.

His form’s took a bit of a hit recently as his goals have dried up a fair bit.

I was all for him signing a few weeks back but not sure he’s the right player now.
