Musk's Twitter Purchase

Talking about making the whole thing a paid for service.

Probably can't understand how the thing is still going despite his best efforts so he's just going down the blatant route to end it.

Can you image how tired zelensky must be? I’m tired at the end of a standard week in work, shit I’m tired on a Monday evening tell the truth.

Imagine having to lead a country through an invasion and subsequent war when you have no experience whatsoever in doing anything like that. I bet he hasn’t had an hour ‘off’ since it began.

Only to get shit like this aimed at him from a childish billionaire who's never worked for anything in his life

It's especially fun considering Elon's companies received something like 10 billion dollars in subsidies from the U.S state in a year.

As with all things Elon Musk, it's about as thoughtful as sending an elephant into a china shop and hoping he'll bring out a nice set of cups.

Sorry to say it Elon, but you're officially the dullest tool in the shed. You bought a social media platform to amplify racist, bigoted idiotic shit. You even boost it by replying to openly racist, bigoted tweets from accounts that are proven and in some cases previously banned individuals.

No one should ever be using X for anything, and hereby all things previously called tweets should be called Xcrements.

Welp, I’m happy to use twitter.

I’ve said it before, I don’t get this shit on my feed. I don’t follow many, not many follow me. I see sales in record shops, I see the local football chatter. There’s a bit of local council level politics and some shops. I talk to my mates in the private messaging bit.

I think you maybe get out of it, what you put in to it.

There are adverts for crappy chinese remote control toy planes, and a tiny telescopic fishing rod. But they are easily ignored. Far less invasive than the adverts on youtube.

It’s free, they don’t have my name or my date of birth, I can’t see how it’s any more or less bad than the rest of the internet. I don’t use facebook, but my understanding is that can be fairly grim if you make it that way?

There was an evening I went researching people we were discussing on here and they were clearly scumbags and I could see a lot of the trash that people talk about. But surely you have to go looking for it, or follow it, or follow the sort of people that like or repost the stuff.

The place I keep seeing Musk tweets and Laurence Fox tweets, and Andrew Tate stuff? VillaTalk. Should we all leave?

**edit, I forgot historians, I follow a couple of historians, and taphologists. And space stuff, mostly just notice that the space station is coming over whether you can see the northern lights this evening.

But none of them post right wing filth, anti trans stuff, or general nasty shite.

Are you in favour of sportswashing generally?

Because there, we can see that the countries involved have laws and cultural norms which we would deem to be offensive at best - but the sports involved (be it football clubs or golfers or whoever) are simply playing sports.  I don't see the Saudi state enacting beheadings, so why should I care about Saudi Arabia owning Newcastle?  It's just football.

Why should I care if a platform actively promotes hate speech?  I, personally, don't see it.

(Edit:  Of course, I don't believe everyone should leave Twitter.  Personal choice innit).

I don’t think any of the local clubs I’m following are involved in sports washing? I guess Llantwit Major might be, I’ll check them out.

Would you ban the internet? Newcastle United have information freely available on the internet without using twitter. I dare say Israel do too. Even some pornographers and gambling companies might be using the internet to spread bad stuff.

You should disconnect from the internet, or you’re condoning it.

What drove me away wasnt that I followed Fox, or Musk or any right wing commentators, it was the people I follow amplifying them. They would criticise by retweeting it so my fluffy world of country music singers and slight left authors brought hateful tweets into my otherwise pleasant world. I suspect what you are saying is that you don't get that on your feed.

You're not answering about the sports washing then?  That's fair.

And Llantwit Major sound dodgy as ****!

Correct.

If someone is getting that stuff on to my feed, they’re gone.

I’ve just checked, and I’m following 239 other accounts. None of them are putting that stuff in front of me. If one of them did, I’d be following 238.
