Which three former players would you sign in this window (if you could)?

Sid and Platt played so well together and I'd go with the Andy Gray from the 76/77 season

Virtually unplayable that year

For me Cowans and Platt would be the best midfielders we've had.

Of ex-players currently still playing I wonder if Idrissa Gueye would be decent? He is 32 though...old bugger!

It's nice that we can all pick some great players, who would do an outstanding job from the various periods that we have been going down to Villa Park, although a couple of the three players chosen, would probably as shocked by their inclusion as most of us are:D. Pity we can't make it actually happen (in most cases;)). Makes a change from the lengthy wait for another signing to emerge on the transfer thread too.

TRO I’m amazed that as someone who saw the European Cup winners (I didn’t) you’d choose three ‘modern’ players.

For me at their peaks, of players I saw, McGrath, Benteke, Grealish. (Oh shoot now I’m the one not fixing midfield, no wonder the club don’t do it!)

.Paul McGrath

Gordon Cowans

David Platt

We would be fine defensively. and with the other two, there would be a guarantee of plenty of goals.

Platt once said, his ambition when at Villa was to make a run that Sid Cowans didn’t spot. His ambition remained unfulfilled.

Tommy Craig had similar potential but never quite got there. I think we pay 200 grand for him which was a lot of the time

You're as old as you feel.

Therefore I'm 76.

I was there when he broke his leg and heard the crack. Andy Gray ran half the length of the pitch and pushed Robertson over.

In terms of making our current first team stronger

McGrath to partner Diego

Peak Benteke to play up front with Coutinho and Buendia swarming around him

Mortimer to play midfield alongside Ramsey and Kamara

That would get us challenging top 6 no doubt

Given we're talking about the 8 position I would say Barry for sure.

Benteke at his best would also be ridiculous with the creativity we know have, little bit different to waiting for likes of Joe Bennett or Lichaj to cross the ball for him.
