We lump it far too often when we should be keeping the ball on the ground and being intricate in our passing and play with the technical players we have. We could win the next 10 games and lose game 11 and the haters would come out agon with the pitch forks for Gerrard. Most who doubt Gerrard are reasonable, want the best for Villa but think he’s not doing a good job. I’m one of them and I’m delighted with the win today, even though it was too close at the end. That was true under Smith and it's true under Gerrard. It is down to the manager to get the team playing well in order to get the fans onside not the other way around. Smith did it to his fullest capacity, ran out of steam and got sacked. Gerrard is yet to convince. He may still do that, but the chances are on current showings, he won't. The one with looked like a functioning system, before that it was better than last week, although it would be hard to be worse, but still disjointed and messy in transition. The same old problems were there against an opposition begging to be beaten. Buendia comes on and suddenly there's somebody dropping into those pockets of space and everything seemed to click around him. Gerrard needs to figure out how to do more of that. But the problem is we need to move on, an at the moment he isn't showing he has the minerals to do the job. He is learning on the job, so I doubt we are going to go far with him here. It's not really losing games which loses him support, it's the way we lose, like last week we were a mess. If we lose like that again, obviously what he is trying to do ain't working.
