Ashley Young being a piss-poor right back cost us the game today.

It's on the manager for bringing him on, but that cross was in the air for about 15 minutes before it went past Martinez.

Not ready to write him off yet but his record in Scotland was average at best. Needs to pick a system that suits what he has at his disposal rather than choosing his preferred system and then trying to fit players in.

How many times does he take Buendia off and seeing our play deteriate until he realizes that there are other options to take off.

Lower win percentage at Rangers than McLeish

The concerning thing for me is we are continually exposed out wide on the counter and yet we continually invite more of the same. Either Gerrard is stubborn or just stupid to think he can impose a system that doesn't work with the personnel.

he's a chancer in the mould of stuart pearce, roy keane, sherwood etc, someone who thinks talking about pashun directly and saying forceful words about changes and a response in press conferences is enough. That kind of shit that appeals to the lowest denominator of moron. We need someone with intelligence in the job. Get him gone.

Not sure if I have misunderstood DC, but I think it makes a massive difference. All the upheaval for the same result? Dean Smith is proven at this level, Gerrard isn't. I would back DS with mega money investment over Gerrard based on this alone. It's substance over hype.

Yeah, my point is why did we throw Smith away if we weren't going to progress? Next season we need to see major improvements and without buying multiple players in the summer I can't see where it's coming from.

Ultimately a loss and a draw is one point difference. Yeah we conceded a goal we shouldn't have. We still have time to turn the season around. The table doesn't look as grim as the mood currently is.

Brighton lost at home to Burnley today. We have a chance if we don't let our heads drop. It's critically important we turn it around and finish the season strong as we won't be able to sign anyone good in summer of we're stumbling into the window in poor form

We played much better than Newcastle game and conceded a goal on the counter. These things always seem to happen when you're on a bad run. We've got a chance to get some momentum with Brighton Southampton and then Leeds. Two of those are teams we need to beat to get ahead of in the League.

We just need a bit of luck. There's still plenty of time to finish the season strong. The Leeds game seems to have rattled the players.

Leeds, Newcastle and Watford. It's not getting easier than that.

We created nothing and could easily have conceded 2 or 3 on the break but for Martinez.  It's what happens when your full backs are supposed to be your main attacking outlet (one of them in his late 30s that has just subbed on).  Having McGinn and Ramsey spend the whole match having to sit deep and cover them for 90 minutes does no good going forward or back either.

Hugely interesting talk on the radio other day about how Lage at Wolves has done exactly this. Started with one, particular system, saw that it wasn't working, and had the humility and intelligence to change this for a system that suited his squad. Wonder if Gerrard could ever do such a thing?

Not really IMO Watford had several good chances besides that. The problem goes deeper than just Young.

It’s a transitional phase , he’s trying to change our style of play which I can see glimpse of.

Same as Arteta , they were even in the relegation    zone when he tried to play the procession style from the old school counter attack. He was given time and are flying now.

Gerrard need a season at least
