Before injury he was in a similar position to Bailey, that is he had to prove this season that he was good enough for a top six side, so it shall be the case for next season Don't think so. Think it's just the people that have always rated him being excited for his return.
T-Dog
38 games in the Prem last season, 5 goals, 2 assists https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/emiliano-buendia/detaillierteleistungsdaten/spieler/321247 https://www.premierleague.com/players/26408/Emiliano-Buendía/stats?co=1&se=489 I want him back, he's definitely gives us something that we don't currently have, but I think a few of us need to give our head a wobble about how much of a difference he would have made this season. I mean he would have clearly made a difference playing second striker or LM instead of shoehorning Tielemans, McGinn all over the place, and doing anything to not play Zaniolo. Was second in the squad for expected goals and assists too. 4

For context, same website, Diaby (who, let's be honest, hasn't been great) has 9.9 in 28 games. So he has 10 more games, to get 2 more expected G&A to have a season better than Buendia. And he's been pap this season. https://fbref.com/en/squads/8602292d/Aston-Villa-Stats To clarify once again, I like Buendia, and I do think he'd offer us something we don't have at the minute, but the train of thought that our season would have been much better with him in seems a bit odd to me. (Also, fully appreciate last season wasn't as good as this season, didn't win as many, didn't score as many, but that's still not enough to convince me)

He also brings a lot more besides expected assists and goals, whilst Diaby does nothing else. He'd have made the same step to everyone else in the squad did. And he'd have continued to be our second most creative player, along with a player that harrases the opposition giving them less time to set up their long cross field passes over our defence. Anyone that thinks he wouldn't have helped us this season is the person that needs to give their head a wobble. 9

Agree, he would’ve been an excellent option to have and likely would’ve helped gain a couple more points on the board but I don’t think he would’ve been a starter. How many penultimate passes before the assist? Pure assists and goals don't tell the full story. How much influence on forward play? How much disruption on defenders with a terrier like attitude?

MakemineVanilla
I think Buendia did okay but he's a creative player and Villa need someone like Kevin Richardson, who will win the ball in midfield and give it simple. Creative players are usually trying to do something clever and lack defensive instincts, so they give the ball away, in the wrong part of the pitch. Tielemans and Zaniolo are both guilty of this. abdulaziz1
Is it confirmed that he won’t feature at all this season?
MapleVilla
I don't think they'll ever confirm that sort of info. But anything is possible I guess. I think it's doubtful, but maybe he might come on for 5-10 minutes in a game in the last couple of games

Well he is probably our best presser and is the only player we have that really attempts through balls from the 10 position especially when struggling break some teams down 6

R.Bear
My philosophy on players who have had a serious injury is basically to write them off. I dont mean that they'll never come good. I mean that anything more than nothing is a bonus. We have no idea if he'll be the same player, whether he fits in with Emery's plans, whether he will stay fit. There is so much murkiness to it. Obviously I hope he comes back better but banking on him to do anything or saying what he will do when he's back is at best, complete guesswork, at worst, total nonsense. We have no idea and wont any idea until he's back and fit. Whenever that will be.
TheMightyVillans
with ollies finishing this season buendia probably would been near 10 assists at this stage if he played this season. Last season watkins missed a bunch of chances buendia created for him.

DJBOB
Have to think he'll make the bench if we have any meaningless matches towards the end of the season. Hopefully secured UCL by Liverpool or Palace.
