Premier League 2019-2020 Thread

Uefa confirmed this morning it wants to conclude champions league and europa league in August.

Given they still had to play last 16 second round legs for some rounds and they still want to play both legs of quarter and semi final I think anyone expecting a new premier league season to start in mid August regardless of what happens to this one is in for a surprise.

Simply isn't enough midweeks to get all the european games done in August so they'll have to play on weekends aswell. Then domestic league would start sometime in September.

Actually they can do the following, adding PL and Championship teams on later stages, cancel replays in FA cup. Cancel home and away in semis for LC. Most of teams will play reserves anyway. Whoever don’t want to take it seriously let them do as Liverpool done by playing kids.

That’s the least concern in my opinion. For CL and EL just cancel group stages and begin it with knockouts.

Then it’s up to every team were to focus. Without canceling any.

Yeah you could do that but still got to fit lots of international matches in aswell.

It's certainly far too early to give up on next season's FA cup anyway as hopefully by January 2021 some form of effective treatment will be placed so hopefully the last rounds of that can be played infront of crowds again (and premier league).

Not sure what happens to this season's competition, really can't see where it gets fitted in.

Is a team like Atalanta from a devastated city like Bergamo even going to want to carry on competing?

Probably since it's a huge thing for them being in the CL but is it even going to work? There is an Swedish ex Atalanta player who still live there but who also works for Swedish telly and he's not been allowed back to Bergamo since March and has been living in Sweden instead since them. He's not seen his family since then and is apparently not counting on being allowed back until sometime in the autumn.

UEFA are full of shit. They also said they expect 80%of regular seasons to complete and that if they can't complete home and away legs in France for the French teams they can just play in a neutral stadium abroad. This ignores that when the players return to France they will enter a 14 day quarantine, or any incoming team from another country will have to do the same. That is PSG and Lyon either dropping out of Europe or finding a way to complete all their matches in another country effectively moving the entire French league out of France. UEFA can't see a problem because they are not looking.

Also the arrogance of that UEFA bloke is staggering. The French govt have said no sports until September as we deem it not to be safe. UEFA clearing in the woods is basically over ruling them. He can't but he seems to think he can.

Can do just don't have international breaks. Before your time but there never used to be international breaks.

The African Cup of Nations in January will be fun to see how they solve.

Guess they can fix the last couple of places for the 2021 Euro's by grabbing names (different temperature balls) out of a hat.

Yes that would help. Although i don't think UEFA would be in favor of your suggestion.

Guess theres world cup qualifiers but they can be put off a year and reduce the amount of friendless and have no weeks off.

That doesn't effect the league season does it

The AFCON? No, just that a lot of players will have to travel and miss league games so it will be interesting to see how they solve it. Think it might be too soon for it to be played in January.

The qualifiers for the Euro's happens during international breaks so they would effect the league season I guess.

FIFA have already said internationals need to be caught up later this year.

really somethings got to give, unless they send the u21s to play

Your guess is as good as mine, doubt they’ll let that happen.

There is too many governing bodies that aren’t willing to give an inch plus want their catch up....from FIFA, UEFA, AFCON, PL and EFL....plus all the influential sponsors. It’s going to be a shit fight and who knows who going win because it all can’t happen.

Cant see UEFA giving up lucrative Champions League money and FIFA international money, the domestic cups seems an obvious choice but they don’t want to that give up....then we have the league as well.

How do you think we'll do if the league returns in June?

We've got a tough schedule left.

Will Super John McGinn make the difference for us?

No, because he cant play

I assume if the Prem league season does restart the four teams with a game in hand will play those fixtures first before the rest play. Be nice to win that one and then if it all quickly goes tits up at least if talk about finishing season as stands we'd be out the bottom 3.
