PussEKatt
I used to make plastic model aircraft and tanks, mostly 1/72 nd scale and I used to like wethering them and making them look as real life as possable.Sadly since we moved into a different house I have had to give it up.Not enough room now. Xann
A friend is in the UK Garrison, he's 3D printing a set of Shoretrooper armour currently. This'll be his gun if he decides to print that too? One of his mates on FB makes little aircon units to install in the helmets Were I kid now? I'd definitely want a 3D printer. Popular Post Wezbid
I like this thread and reading about what people get up to for fun, enjoyment, to focus their mind, relax, push themselves or just escape. Until the latter half of last year, I didn't really have much in terms of a hobby. I'd love to binge watch series, watch films, binge listen to true crime/Kermode & Mayo film podcasts but it didn't feel like much more than filling time, although I was actually very satisfied with this routine in all honesty. Through the BBC (Kermode/Mayo) film podcast I randomly discovered a musical artist called Perturbator via a listener's tip-off after Kermode commented/praised the music in film. It turns out that the group SURVIVE did some of the songs on the film who, a year or 2 later really came to prominence for creating the soundtrack for and intro theme to Stranger Things. I downloaded some Perturbator which is actually a good leap away from the 80's synthwave sound but instantly got hooked on his music. From there I delved more into modern artists doing that retro/nostalgic/80's-esque synthwave/vaporwave/outrun sort of sound and was hooked. I was listening to plenty of stuff via youtube (before realising the glory of Spotify) and somehow ended up on a tutorial on how to make a synthwave song. It turned out to be one video in a big playlist of tutorials on the subject, and explained in a way that was understandable and satisfying at the same time. At this time, around late summer 2019, I didn't know what DAW meant and had zero thought that I could ever have an interest in music other than listening to it. A week or so later I was on ebay bidding a mini MIDI keyboard which I won. I then hit up torrents for a shamefully free version of FL Studio, aka the DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). From here, I had a dinky keyboard plugged into my laptop and couldn't believe how much fun I was having just messing around, pressing random crap on the keyboard and grinning when I hit something nice. My fiancee saw it more than me how happy it was making me and insisted that she get me a full-sized keyboard for my Christmas present. I asked my family to club together for a computer desk as a Christmas present so me and the future Mrs could turn the spare/junk room into somewhere useful and a chilled place. Now, a few months later, I've added LED's, small monitor speakers and built a monitor/speaker riser on the cheap for a really satisfying place to relax and hopefully create. I feel like a clearing in the woods though as I spend more time watching other people make music on youtube than actually trying to create stuff myself. That said, this is really something I'm investing my time and focus on for the long term and I can't tell you how satisfying it is to sit down at a desk and typing on here instead of hunched over a laptop/phone screen. I am not taking this up to try and make it in the music business or make some cash off streams/clicks etc. It's just for my own mind and to try and get a little creative, whatever speed that may end up being. All I'm trying to say eventually is try and find that something that perks your interest and go with it. It could be anything. I am completely abysmal at the moment but I have something to work on and something to enjoy, as frustrating as it can also be. It's helped my mental health so much having something to 'do'/work towards. If you'd have seen this room last year you'd be cringing but I feel really proud to have turned it into a place to try and create or relax. I can't believe how lucky I am to have such a wonderful partner who's helped support make it happen. She couldn't care less if I didn't ever complete a song. She's just happy that I'm happy plodding away, doing my thing, badly. Sorry for waffling on but this thread really struck a chord with me (no pun intended). This is the area we've created for ourselves (she watches her shows on the TV whilst I have the headphones on). Our cats love the LED's in here too, it seems to really chill them out. Chindie Posted September 9, 2020 Author VT Supporter Share Posted September 9, 2020 Creative efforts all over the shop at the moment... Got bored at lunch, decided to tinker away on another half baked project idea. Working through some of the Gundam backlog. These are just out of the box snapped together. They'll get painted before I'm dead hopefully.
