I had listened to them for a while on the insistence of a friend and initially thought 'what the ****?' Then, one day I was driving around in my old knackered mini and 'British People in Hot Weather' came on a compilation tape he'd (My mate) made for me. And suddenly it all fell into place and I 'got' them. I was a fan after that and remain so to this day. I kept being told the same thing about Beefheart's Trout Mask Replica. After thirty years of waiting for the penny to drop, I gave up. Life's too short.
dAVe80
My introduction to The Fall was seeing them perform Telephone Thing on The Late Show. I was about 10 I think. I don't think I even liked them at the time. I probably thought they were just making a row to be honest, but I never forgot them. A couple of years later I found a copy of Live From The Witch Trials in my uncle's LP collection. I recognised the name, so picked the record up, and took it away, along with a load of mental Psychobilly records (mainly because the sleeves looked brilliant). I listened to it the next day, and loved it. I then took the long journey, discovering the other 578451115 Fall records. mjmooney Posted January 24, 2018 VT Supporter Share Posted January 24, 2018 They did have some good titles, I'll give them that. Shame the songs didn't live up to them.

bickster Posted January 24, 2018 Moderator Share Posted January 24, 2018 I've just been reminded on Facebook something that I'd completely forgotten... I once played football pre-gig with The Fall. It was a contractual obligation as I recall In the snow on a car park

chrisp65
I've recently tried Trout Mask again in the last fortnight. Nope. But The Fall do fit a lot of my criteria, a basic pub rock sound where you can listen to individual instruments not just a mixed and produced generic sound. Sometimes I'll listen to the drums, sometimes keyboard etc.. Lots of it is thumping repetition too. Another tick. But I'm no superfan. The little I know, Smith was a bit of a difficult prick. But I don't need him to be nice. I just like his edgy loud thumping music.
tonyh29
I seem to have him famous for being a bit obnoxious on TV in the 90’s ? music wise , nope not a clue , not even sure why he’s sky news worthy tbh
