I hope you got a receipt. The UK scrapped road tax in 1937 😬

You must be thinking of something else as everyone  taxes their cars unless your on lease/newer cars where you usually dont pay for 3 years

Not sure what you mean i pay road tax?

You pay vehicle excise duty, calculated by how much pollution your car emits. Bicycles don’t emit pollution, they don’t wear out roads, they don’t burn fossil fuels, they don’t emit particulates into the atmosphere that kill people, they do give an active benefit to health and exercise.  Many cyclists also own cars and pay vehicle excise duty on those cars.

The pollution aspect is just a reason to get more money out if us then. If its measured by pollution why with most new vehicles you pay no tax/duty but then you pay it after three years? Its still the same vehicle!

You may be getting it mixed up with MOTs. If the emissions are low enough, (pre 2017)  you will not pay duty. 3 years does not come into it.

Who is Steve Barclay and is he any good for Health Secretary.

He has already been health secretary for two months between July and September. As for is he any good, he is a Tory and will continue to do what they have done to health and social care for the last 12 years - destroy it.

Got to disagree with you there. Saw a piece the other day which explained the various reactions in media around the world to the current circumstances. No one cares.

Pretty disgusting to take the piss like this, when it's on the record she suffers from dyslexia.

Keeps reaching for water and ends up necking whiskey.

Bicycles have tyres don't they? Particulate pollution is much worse from tyres than exhausts newish research has found (tye pollution in cars can be 1000 times greater than exhaust emissions!)

It won't be as much as cars obviously but the idea that bikes don't cause particulate pollution isn't true

Its a mad thing to read at first but it's true.  Trucks and buses must be  nightmare for this as they have loads of wheels.

This is one part of the Electric car solution that still needs to be looked at.

I always wonder why freight doesn't travel by rail,  its got to be the best bet for the environment (Steel wheels)?

That looks suspiciously like the blurb from a car leasing company and not the government. Cars manufactured pre 2017 pay different levels of road tax, dependant on the emissions it can be zero. Cars manufactured after 2017 pay different rates.

https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax-rate-tables/rates-for-cars-registered-on-or-after-1-march-2001

A 2016 VW Up will cost 20 quid tax, where as a 2016 Octavia is freetax, I think.
