But Ayew was already starting, so I guess my question still stands... Looking at yesterday's bench I don't see many options. Maybe Richards at RB and Bacuna in MF... Or Both Kozak and Gestede up front, but I doubt that would work for the full 90 minutes.
VillaChris
I think it makes sense to start Gestede AND Kozak next week. My main fear is it will be heading to 0-0 and West Brom will nick one from a set piece (they score plenty of them with McAuely, Olsson and Evans there) so having those two back for corners will help us massively. That and Ayew running from deep will probably unsettle them a bit, Jordan is better outside the box if that makes sense, him and Benteke would've been fantastic imo.

Or go Gestede and Kozak up top with Ayew roaming around them and stick with 3 midfield players. But Grealish has shown even less than Gil. I'd give him a go against Wycombe, if he plays well then maybe... But he really doesn't strike me as the type of individual who will work hard, step his game up and start performing consistently. Attitude-wise I feel he's one of the worst players we have at the club.

More of that and he'll easily justify his place in the team. For teams where we can pass it around a bit he's fine. I think we can do that vs West Brom. For games like Leicester where we got no time on the ball at all he's not as effective. Taking him off for Rudy was the perfect move to be honest. His attitude has let him down but deserves the chance of redemption. Edited January 17, 2016 by DCJonah

I agree that Ayew is better outside the box (playing off a front man) and yes, him and Benteke together would've been football pornography. Not convinced about Gestede and Kozak together, that would mean that we would only have one attacking player with any skill, and we only have 2 decent crossers of the ball (Bacuna and Veretout). I'm afraid the couple of them up front would result in hoofball, and WBA doesn't strike me as the best team to play it against.

If he's decent he should come off the bench. If he's rubbish he should stay on the bench unless we have injuries or need a desperate change of tactics. But we're a little off topic.
Zatman
He has created 14 chances in 15 games this season, Gabby has created 10 in 8 and gets all sorts of abuse Gil is overrated, lightweight and brainless

Zatman
nope Gil is a playmaker so his main job is creating chances

Dr_Pangloss
His level has dropped off a lot, he's holding onto the ball too much and is looking increasingly lightweight on the ball (more than he has ever looked). I don't think the movement of those in front of him helps, but still, he really does need to find some form and sharpness. Vive_La_Villa
Needs to accept he is lightweight and won't get free-kicks from being muscled off the ball (maybe in Spain he would). If he can be quicker to release the ball in these situations and give the move flowing then there is definitely a role for him.
bobzy
He didn't have a good game, but he should still start. One of very few players who actively look for the ball all the time.

I would try him on the right/left of the diamond tomorrow if we want to try and rest Veretout and Gana both (which I think we should).
