PieFacE Posted May 12, 2014 VT Supporter Share Posted May 12, 2014 (edited) I personally think a deal is at an advanced stage. Can't see Lerner releasing a statement like that if it weren't. I know not many on here give him much credit but he's not that stupid to say he doesn't want to own Aston Villa, but will continue to do so. He just wouldn't put himself out like that. I also don't know why this discredits any ITK's on TBAR, to me a takeover is definitely happening, and it will happen this summer. It's just a question whether it's weeks or months. I imagine Randy has been trying to sell the club for quite some time, not just starting today. its just a question..........or years!! no buyer has been lined up - lets not kid ourselves, however nice it would be to get mega rich owners Why has no buyer been lined up? Because Sky Sports told you so? Do you not think releasing a statement like this is a bit out of character for Randy? Why would Lambert pretty much tell the world he has no future at AVFC if Lerner was going to remain the owner? facts are facts - we have not been told a buyer has been found - the statement says he has put the club up for sale - nothing more - why do you think we have a buyer when the facts say we havent - dont kid yourself with what you want to be true - if there was a buyer we would know - there isnt and thats why there has been no leaks, no concrete rumours - nothing - nada - nowt..... I think we have a buyer for all the reasons already stated. Why would Lerner put himself in a position saying he doesn't want to own the club anymore if there's a chance he's not going to be able to sell it? If there's no buyer in place, why is Lambert completely fretting about his future at AVFC? Surely if there's no buyer everything will continue as normal untill there is? If there isn't a buyer, why on earth has General Krulak come out and made a statement pretty much saying Randy is too busy to be the Villa chairman? Why haven't players contracts been sorted out already? If the club doesn't get taken over in this summer then it's complete PR suicide. There's no way a man as private as Randy Lerner will open himself up to that level of stupidity if he weren't pretty sure the club was going to be sold soon. The only way he can know that is if there's someone lined up already. It's pretty fecking obvious really. Edited May 12, 2014 by PieFacE

But where does it say a buyer hasn't been found? Just because it doesn't mention one doesn't mean the other option is true. Currently the only fact is that we're up for sale. it doesnt say we have signed messi either so could that be true? I think to save hundreds of pages of speculation we should wait for the next official anouncement - at least we can rely on what it says - rather than read into what it doesn't!! I want a multi billionaire new owner as much as anyone - but this is the real world there are not many of those around! lets hope when we do find a buyer - and its before xmas with any luck - its an owner who see's himself as a custodian of this great club rather than trying to use it as a cash cow.... there was a lot of good things about RL lets hope we dont end up only appreciating what he has done for us when he is gone!! the grass isnt always greener.....

Rob182
if there was a buyer we would know Why would we? Perhaps the new buyer (if there is one) doesn't want his/their name to be released until a deal is finished? Or does that not compute in your 'facts only' logic?

dont_do_it_doug.
I find it baffling how some people who thought we were going to be sold now suddenly think we're not? (not just on here, in the whole Villa world). To me this statement is the biggest indication that a takeover is well on the way. 1.Because it confirms that Lerner has been trying to find a buyer - 2.Yet no buyer or potential buyer has been found like many I beleive Lerner has been open to offers for a couple of years - but none have been forthcoming - he realises that £20m per season might not be enough to keep us in the prem - so to absolve himself of being attached to that - he's saying "Sorry - Over to the new guys' My view is that we will have new owners by Christmas. I think the best we can realistically hope for is someone of Lerners wealth - but with a bit more footballing nous..... What I fear is a cobbled together consortuim - that saddles the club with debt - and really just want a slice of TV money... Sorry, but where is point "2" construed from and where does appointing The Bank Of America to oversee the sale fit in with that? I'm completely lost with how some of you have reached the opinion that we've only just started the process. The process was clearly began 2 years ago. Edited May 12, 2014 by dont_do_it_doug. People like to speculate. If you don't like it, it's probably better that you don't read it, instead of telling everyone not to speculate until news is announced. Also, not many people are seriously thinking we'll have a mega-rich, oil-sheikh multi-billionaire owner. Most people just want someone who has enough money to spend on us to get us to compete in the top half (£20-£40m per season transfer fund, with competetive wages, maybe?) That's not really 'out of this world'. It's very much in the real world, as that's what a lot of other Prem clubs are doing.
Popular Post Hughes
The biggest clue that there is a buyer out there as we speak is pure economics. If a sale is not completed any time soon, the statement from Randy today quite simply means that any prolonged process will turn into a fire sale and Randy will achieve a lower price. That statement is a statement of a desperate seller unless the seller knows he has a deal more or less in place. So, to me he must be confident that he can complete a sale when putting that statement out.

dont_do_it_doug.
Also - Why would we be told a deal is "close", no matter how close it may be? This is not the Daily Mirror reporting, it's a proper club statement. From the owner no less.
