Did a really nice pan fried salmon fillet last night. Perfect crispy skin, can't remember the last time I enjoyed salmon as much. Even better, we got them from the Asda fish counter reduced by half towards the end of the day.

The missus came home with some stewing beef, only 500g for four people, so I was inspired to make beef fajitas, stew the meat slowly until falling apart, then stir-fry with peppers, chipotle, garlic etc and serve as fajitas with guacamole and oven-baked chips in olive oil, oregano and chilli as a side.  A good way to make a smallish amount of meat spin out.

Open the pack to find it's not stewing beef at all, but mince.  Sodding mince.  No good for anything except a spag bol.

Gaaahhh!

make enchiladas!!

Don't fancy using mince for that.  I'll happily use leftovers, or a bit of beef or chicken or pork, but mince...doesn't appeal.

Made a spag bol with some paprika and chilli but stopping short of Rob's scotch bonnets.

Have now managed to find a small piece of brisket, cooked it gently for 5 hours until it can be pulled apart with forks, seasoned with chipotle and paprika, next will stir fry with onion, garlic, red pepper,  more chipotle and some bird's eye chilli, and the fajitas are back on.  Guacamole made, potato wedges roasting in the oven...all set.

This is quite astonishing.

An advertising exec, hit with a life-limiting illness caused by his diet, recognises his part in inflicting similar damage on others, and tries to make amends.

And it's published in the Mail, whose entire ethos is the exact opposite of this act of confession and recompense and criticising the ad industry and the food processing industry.

I can only assume the ad exec concerned is a personal friend of someone high up in the Mail, like when the odious Dacre campaigned on the death of Stephen Lawrence because Stephen's dad had been doing his decorating.

Despite all that, worth reading.

I work with a lad, and regularly goes to this shit hole of a pub in walsall that do Indian mixed grills, and all that stuff. He says there the best kind of places to go, rather than some swanky looking place.

Is that this place?

Total shit hole. Brilliant mixed grill.

Interesting reviews. I have never been ill after eating here.  I have not found the staff rude.  Seem to be starting from a low base.

I've officially lasted one whole month without meat. I reckon I'll try to keep it up until my birthday in March, and then have a nice blow-out, running around stabbing pigs, cows and ducks all over the shop.

On another food-and-drink related note, my bank account app gets me a free drink every day from a few different coffee shops. Since I've moved to my new job, I'm now surrounded by about 7 of these different places, and I've had 2 free lattes every day since I started on 2nd Jan. I'm going to look like a cup of coffee in a few months.

Chef's special, which is donor meat, chicken tikka bits, shish  kebab, and chips, with a massive naan bread. It feeds four, and only £10. First takeaway we've had in a few weeks, I think.
