I was a veggie for 10 years until this past winter when I broke down and started eating pork. I've just gone back to veggie last week. I doubt I could be vegan, cheese is a vegetarian's savior. I also like cream in my morning coffee. A big change I've made is no added sugar.

I was at a buffet type dinner at my cousins last week on Labor Day, lot's of people. My cousin made a lovely mac and cheese, with 5 types of cheese, it was delicious. My nephew declined and made boxed mac and cheese when he got home. He's about to turn 15 and does not eat pizza, pasta, meat, rice, most veggies, etc. Potatoes only if they are fries. The blandest diet I've ever seen. My sister defends it as "taste sensitivity...

We're all going to be gender fluid vegans soon, our great great great grandparents would be spinning in their graves.

So I wasn't able to stream the game tonight, because I was advised I had to prepare a curry for her mates. Which I did.

She did puddings.

Aloo papdi chaat

Butter chicken (no butter)

Beef bhoona

Saag aloo

Courgette "meatballs" (no meat)

Mint and cucumber raita

Peshwari naan, garlic and coriander naan, rice

Lemon trifle

Figs with mascarpone, rosemary, honey

I would happily have swapped that for a decent performance,  but as it stands, I had the better deal..

McVities Banoffee Caramel Chocolate Digestives

McVities Coffee Caramel Chocolate Digestives

Absolutely glorious. Both packs consumed in two days with copious amounts of cups of tea. I'm a fat slob.

A variation on bacon and cabbage:

Gammon simmered for a couple of hours (and the stock used for lentil soup), then coated with a thin wash of brown sugar, coriander, cardamon, cloves. black pepper and gently baked.

Sauce made from shallot softened in butter, madeira, mustard powder, orange and lemon juice, redcurrant jelly.

Potatoes sauteed in olive oil and butter with lemon and chives.

Kale sauteed in olive oil, garlic, chilli flakes and lime juice.

Slightly spicy, not very, with some sweet and sour notes.

you got a decent apple crumble recipe @peterms ?? for someone who doesnt like cinnamon (i know...)

I think Nigel Slater is pretty good for this sort of thing - his brownie recipe is great.

BBC have his apple crumble recipe here.

He doesn't add any spice.  If you don't like cinammon, how about a touch of allspice?

There was a chef from Rules on the radio this week - they are a very old London restaurant specialising in traditional dishes.  He said he uses three kinds of apples, because Bramleys will disintegrate into a sauce, and it's good to include something that will keep its shape as well.  Sounds like a good idea.  Maybe Cox, or Braeburns?
