I bought a mattress off a seller on eBay (proper bed shop) 15 months ago and now it's knackered. Springs twanging and clunking when you move about. I dropped them a message and they said they won't do anything as it's over 12 months since it was purchased.

Is there any grounds from a "Sale of Goods act" point of view to get it repaired/replaced as 15 months isn't really a reasonable amount of time for it to last?

You must go at it like a bull at a gate.

I got a right shock about two weeks ago. I think we were playing Leeds away and I said to my son are you watching villa with me. His response was he don't like villa and supports Liverpool. My wife couldn't stop laughing and I was just left open mouthed. If he carries on with that attitude when he's older I can see us coming to blows ;)

If it breaks after 6 months, it's on you to prove that the item's poor durability means it wasn't fit for purpose, and that it was of unacceptable quality and it wasn't broken due to reasonable wear and tear, or damage that you caused.

So if you can get some kind of mattress specialist to examine it and produce a report for you, you probably have a good case...Personally 'd take it as a lesson learned and you want to buy from a reputable store that'll give a much longer guarantee for their matresses. It was probably a fair bit cheaper buying it from the shop on ebay, but there's a reason for it.

I didn't pay a fortune for it so from that point of view not an enormous loss. I spent a lot of money on a Silentnight bed and mattress but neither of us got on with the mattress so I took a punt on this one from 'Bed World' on eBay as it was on offer.

I just thought that considering Dreams have an advert recommending that mattresses are changed every 8 years its probably not unreasonable to expect one not to be bin fodder after 15 months.

It's definitely an unreasonable amount of time for a mattress to fall apart in, and you could probably get your money back, it's just a matter of how willing you are to go down the route of gathering evidence and taking them to the small claims court if required. After 6 months, a company can dig their heels in and make it too much of a pain in the arse for people to pursue it.

Might not be a bad idea to let them know that this is the route you're going down and see if the threat makes them change their tune.

I think eBay come down pretty hard on sellers who have multiple 'Paypal disputes' opened against them. I'm wondering whether to use that as a threat for them to do something about the poor quality of the mattress they sold.

Nah, once you get that first day over with I'm ok. It's the actual thought of going the night before and the actual waking up for work. Last year I started back on the Monday which was shit but atleast we've only got three days before it's the weekend again.

Work was shite today. Didn't help I have a cold as well.

Dragged like hell. So glad to be home.

Plus didn't help that someone had a shit last week and didn't flush, and its sat there all weekend festering in its juices in the pan. The toilet this morning stank like a cess pit.

Slipped over on ice, in the car park at work. Luckily only landed on my knee, and managed to just get away with soggy trouser leg. I nearly got back in the car and called the day off.
