She went early because she wanted to get back early, so she could enjoy the night at home. I get a text saying she was on the way home from the meal, but she was dropping the car off, so she could go down town for a couple of drinks. I weren't too impressed, because town would be rammed tonight and I know how easy it is to get dragged into staying out all night. She then said she weren't going town, but just going the pub round the corner. 3 hours later her mates have to bring her back because she's legless. I just can't be arsed with what comes with it, wetting the bed, rough in the morning, worrying about her crushing the new kitten because she's that drunk she's comatosed, plus I thought it was just a couple of drinks and she wanted to get back early. I've got no room to talk, I know, but just thought it weren't going to be like this anymore. Her mates are going town now, so atleast she came back I suppose. Just don't want to fall into the habit of drinking heavily again, especially as xmas is known for drinking and it's hard enough. How much do you have to drink to wet the bed?! StefanAVFC
I don't think somebody who had spent the last how many years off their head on coke neglecting their responsibilities has much ground to stand on when complaining about their other half getting pissed to be honest.

I do when alcohol is a problem for my missus. She's by no means an alcoholic, but it has caused her problems in the past and it's caused us problems in the past. Im just trying to do best for my family now, we both are.

I'm not going to lie though, but sometimes it can be damn right depressing. you rarely beat the bookie and overall they definitely win.
andym
Of course bookies always win long term, the way they create a book (and adjust it) makes it certain mathematically. Also, as a punter you are not really winning/losing against the bookie (unless for some reason you are purposely taking a lower price on an event), you are playing against a particular event/outcome. You could win 100 bets in a row and still the bookies would profit overall on the market you are betting on, because they are not just laying bets to you and there is more than one outcome on the market. it is obviously tough to predict enough correct outcomes for a punter to make profit though, given the sheer number of variable in sports, although there are some who can do it regularly (i know Connor who used to post on VT was and still is doing very well in jumps racing). I'm in profit, although i only do it for a bit of fun and beer money (small stakes). I can see though how it grabs hold of some people, and agree the advertising is way OTT. One of the things i hate at the moment is the prevalence of affiliate 'twitter tipsters'. Basically these twitter accounts post tips and always include one-click links to bookie websites. What they don't tell people following their tips is that they get commission from that bookie if the bet loses. I've seen one of these 'tipsters' advertised on the billboards at Blues games. Go to their feed and you will see any winners highlighted, but overall P+L figures mysteriously vague. As usual it has taken months of media criticism for the bookies involved to stop these affiliate schemes, although it still goes on.
Ingram85
Always wondered, if two people bet a tenner each on a match and each bet on the other team would one of them make more than £20? If so then what’s to stop people just going halves on every match and making a profit each time and just sharing it? The most likely outcome would have very low odds with a quid or so profit and that would happen often enough to outweigh any shock results over a couple of matches. edit: you can play odds from different betting companies against each other to minimise the losses and reduce the ‘house advantage’ as it were Edited December 23, 2017 by a m ole

Looking at the profits of the bookies I would have to dispute those claims! Want my spreadsheet? Most people lose, it's the only way the bookies say in business. I stick to matched betting and I'm, as of this afternoon, I'm £4752 up after about 18 months. Not sure how many hours I've put in, it's almost certainly less than my hourly rate, but it;s good fun. I do a bit of 'mug betting' to muddy the waters, and I'm £182 up on that, but that's mostly luck (ish, I usually bet on the Villa to lose, and it works out pretty well) Edited December 23, 2017 by Davkaus 1
