I thought they had pulled off the signing of Douglas, and was saying to my brother what a good signing that was. But finding out that they pulled out of the deal, well that's just fantastic  :crylaugh:

What do we envision his day-to-day tasks will be?

He's obviously got a say on incoming and outgoing players, but will he have a say in match tactics, style of play, etc?

Not too sure what JFK is qualified to do, apart from phoning Fergie everyday.

If you're the owner, and you've given too long a contract to the manager in a fit of generosity and soon come to regret doing that, and you want to get rid of him, there's a couple of options.

1.  Explain the position to the manager, negotiate acceptable compensation, identify a suitable replacement, and manage the announcement in a way which preserves dignity and reputations on all sides.

2.  Retreat to a darkened room or a flotation tank, praying to whatever god you worship that the manager decides to leave his, er, long-term secure well-paid job for reasons which are not immediately apparent to you.

3.  Employ a hit man, plant child porn on the manager's work computer, and tell the NSA you heard him holding a conference call with Edward Snowden, Julian Assange, and Bradley Manning's lawyer.  Soap the steps to his office and cut his brake pipes to be on the safe side.

4.  Employ a circus clown in a capacity which creates a very strong case for key employees walking and bringing charges of constructive dismissal, tying up the club and the time of senior staff in legal cases for weeks on end before agreeing compensation in any event, causing reputational damage to the club, demoralising supporters, players and staff, making potential new signings think twice before committing, throwing the club into limbo for several weeks, and creating an endless source of negative news stories to the delight of journalists and opposition fans.

Which course of action would an experienced businessman take?  Someone with better knowledge of running organisations than the simple-minded chap on the terraces?

"I would consider something like a director of football post. But I would do that for just one reason and that is to get myself back into full-time management. If I was a director of football and the manager was struggling and got the old tin-tack, I would tell them that I'd take over."

The Times Link

Rumours doing the rounds are that Douglas' replacement is James Tomkins :D

Joe, the point is not to reveal your grand plan.  Hold your cards close to your chest.  You know, like when you play cards, you hold them, like, close to your chest, and that's so other people can't see them, Joe.  Do you follow me, Joe?  No, sit down mate, it was metaphorical.  No, I mean it was like an example, I didn't want you to actually follow me.  Not even on Twitter!  Ha ha!  What's that, Joe?  Well, it's like a message exchange thing that people use.  Well, sooort of like postcards, mate, but a bit quicker.  With phones and computers and that.  Anyway...never mind...

The madness of Joe continues......

I lifted this from a Newcastle forum.

if you look what we had to go out: we went to non-league clubs and found players.

We trained and worked them and then sold them for millions, as simple as that.

So they say I haven't had any experience in buying and selling players – sure I have.

I bought Dean Holdsworth for 50 grand – sold him for £3m.

Cost £720k sold for £3.5m

I sold John Scales for £3m – he was a free transfer.

He sold scales for £3.5m, and he had cost £70k....but that was in 1987.  Kinnear was in Nepal at the time

I sold Robbie Earle for x, y, z.

Robbie Earle retired from football while at Wimbledon.  He had cost £750k

I sold Marcus Gale,

Marcus Gayle was bought for £250k and sold for £900k...but left wimbledon 2 years after Kinnear.

Leonhardsen,

Cost £650k and sold for £3.5m

Micky Hartford

Cost £50k and finished his career at Wimbledon

John Hartson,

Cost £7.5m sold for £6m

Hans Seigers

Cost £180k while Joe was in Nepal, didn't fetch any fee when he moved on.

most of them were free transfers. And we sold to survive so I know exactly what type of players are needed and what type of players are needed to play.

In addition to correcting Kinnear, I've had a look at his other buys and sells that surpassed a million...

Efan Ekoku

Cost £1m

Sold £0.5m

Ben Thatcher

Cost £1.7m

Sold £5m

Mark Kennedy

Cost £1.75m

Sold Free

Andy Roberts

Cost £2m

Sold Free

Michael Hughes

Cost £1.6m

Sold £1m

Gareth Ainsworth

Cost £2m

Sold Free

This list of players came from the interview that Kinnear did with Bobby Gould - Bobby Gould actually signed more of them than Joe did. Bobby was too polite to mention it.

Joe Kinnear's memory/imagination is unreal.

Hey, I just thought of a way that this could actually be even better. What are the chances Joey Barton comes back to them this season? Can we find a way to make this happen? I know he said he wants to stay in France, but surely he can't keep away from a circus this big, can he?

I actually feel sorry for them.

I can't bring myself to, purely based on their delusion that is apparent in their support.

What delusion? No one's chanting Shearer's name anymore.

"Newcastle's Derek Llambias quit after Joe Kinnear pulled the plug on Douglas transfer. New director of football had never heard of FC Twente defender. Who has played in Champions League. And been in Holland squad."

I know it's old news now, but this is just brilliant. Even I've heard of him and I know nuttin'.

Just when I thought Newcastle weren't a laughing stock any more, they go and do something like this. Incredible.
