Pretty much mate, if a player is strongly liked from a reputable source then someone will start an appropriate thread where people can freely discuss said player. He's a prime example of what can happen if you just give someone a chance. I think he's a prime example of rose coloured glasses. I like Petrov and think he was underrated on here when he was playing for us. Sure he made the occasional mistake here and there but was solid. He used to get belters, right up to the point of his illness. Now since his illness you wont hear a single complaint about his playing career with us and that is so not the reality of the situation. I am not disrespecting him or his illness, arguably I am respecting him more by being honest about it. I would hate to have gone through what he has, I rated him as a player. BUT should his illness disguise the fact he got belters on here? No. He did. I and a few others said it in Petrov thread that we werent his biggest fans as a player. For me had an awful 1st 2 seasons bar the odd glimpse(west ham debut, sheffield united game, derby goal) summed up by the Newcastle game when he was hauled off at half-time. and then massively improved from 08 due to his unfortunate illness. And I don't think his nationality has alot to do with it....I thought he was french at first. Paul Lambert may have to see if their good enough to make an impact before purchasing players in their positions..
