The Randy Lerner thread

what you have all failed to mention is the shirt sponsorship deals, supposed to have been the most luctrative in our history.............where did all this cash go aswell, straight in his pocket is my guess. i still say in todays global football infastructure doug would have done a better job.lerner came over when the gaming industry was offering gaming rights for casinos and he thought he would steel a march by buying AVFC and adding a casino within our villa empire, then all of a sudden they withdrew all this and randy realised his plan had failed and now he wants out. i hear he has even sold the coach park and is looking to offload pubs and land belonging to villa thats why the asking price has dropped. but hey we will never know because he tells us nothing, even his closest dog charles krulak has been muted.........UTV

At the expense of possibly feeding the trolls, what are you going on about with this gaming industry thing? I think the rumour was he bought out 32red in order to get acorns in. Then we had a casino...four years later.

Adding a casino...adding genting casinos, something he doesn't own, to villa in his empire....I....what?

I did hear murmurs about a Casino some time back though with regards to us and Randy.

villa own a fair few plots of land in and around vp, the gaming industry had nothing to do with sponsorship of football clubs but was willing to hand out gaming licenses to draw business to its cities . randy thought he would steal a march by buying the biggest club in birmingham and building casions on the land villa owns.this backfired when they changed the gaming law in 2006 and withdrew invitations for companies to open such industries. http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2005/19/contents... this IMO is what attrcted randy lerner to our great city, he had an hidden agenda........UTV

I love this "straight in his pocket" rubbish... Who do you think has been plugging the £50m losses every year?

Why do you think we are making £50m losses every year?

I think we were making some significant losses for a fair few years. However, last season we should have turned a profit. It's irrelevant though as we have an owner hell bent on cost cutting as his heart isn't in it any more and he needs to recoup what he can.

Lerner has taken a lot of risks over the last few years but this season i fear we will fly too close to the sun and get arse raped.

Obviously some of my analogies are a bit off but i've had half a bottle of jim beam so it's all downhill from here.

As much as I think Lerner has damaged the club I was just thinking back to defining moments over the years. I think one of them was keeping Gregory and giving him large backing instead of getting an experienced manager in. The right man at that time could have got us in to the Champions League that season.

If only we got Wenger or even Moyes instead of keeping Gregory.

Really? Ok, here goes:

Lets say we sell Barry, Young, Milner and Downing for half the transfer fees we got but bought he same players anyway. Our net spend goes up £24 million and looks healthier.

That was the point. And the only point. "Good business in transfer fees lowers net spend".

As for Ireland, thanks for the reminder. I believe that takes £8 million off what I originally quoted.

As for reducing the wage bill - why are/where the players in the "bomb squad" placed there? Because they are/were paid too high for what they produce. But they are not the only high earners: Gabby and Delph also cost a packet yet remain in the squad.

Why is it necessary, then, that our better players (Milner, Barry, Young, Downing) that almost certainly would have stayed in the first team had to be moved on? As is the case with Gabby and Delph, surely good players that produce winning football actually bring in the revenue to pay for their wages?

Or is it simply easier to argue that way because it suits a point of view?

The net spend though is the net spend which averages out at around £9.5m a season.

but doesn't that indicate that in the first fours years he spent reasonably well and when the money was spent badly largely by the man he put all his faith in,only then did he decide to throw the towel in (as far as spending goes and his man subsequently left).....thus lowering the average spend by the lack of spending in the last four years.

I guess it depends on  what argument you want to support.

Yes but then I didn't think that needed repeating yet again given that just about every Villa fan alive is already aware of that.

As for the accusation(again) I'm slanting the figures to support a particular argument or view point once again you are wrong. The only argument or point Im making is that the idea Lerner has spent a lot on players (fees) in his time here simply isn't true, I struggle to comprehend how anyone can dispute that.

at the end of the day we all have our opinions we all know what our club has become. we all need to stick together throughout this frustrating period and focus on the season ahead. whatever will be will be we as fans can't change that so lets just get behind our great club, onwards and upwards hopefully.........UTV

I agree with the need to stick together. However, the frustrating period is approaching its 4th year now. Can't wait until Lerner buggers off.

Take a look back at the historical books during Lerner's time. We've only just stopped bleeding money

Indeed.  Even if we turned a small profit in the year to May 2014, that won't wipe out the accumulated losses in the last 7 years.

Someone will have to point out to him which team is Villa

We'll be the ones with the goalie hoofing the ball forward?

Or maybe he just just have a look down his sock?

The team who is losing and whose clueless, dour manager looks lost on the touchline as his team of misfits fire over-hit balls to each other.
