Republicans don't like Comey as he "cleared" Her. I.e., the two main political parties have no faith in the leader of the primary federal law enforcement agency. Comey's position was untenable and he had to go. Regardless of when/how it happened, the optics could not look good in the current political environment. il_serpente Posted May 10, 2017 VT Supporter Share Posted May 10, 2017 Perhaps something good can come of this: There should be enough Republicans in congress that will recognize that an FBI with a new director picked by Trump, whose campaign is under investigation, and Sessions, who is himself tangled up in the investigation, cannot possibly maintain the appearance of a fair, objective investigation free of influence from the administration. An independent counsel or special commission has to be appointed. Talking about optics, this is simply an amazing move. It's a behind close doors, no press meeting at that. I bet in all the planning the Russians did for this they never in their wildest dreams thought it could go as well as this. Undermining their biggest ally in the most fundamental way possible. For me this the 08 crash equivalent for politics. You wake up one day and realise all those infallible institutions were really only paper thin all along.
