A remarkable achievement. Our academy is something to be really proud of and has been for many a year.

That's why the big clubs are angling for UEFA to ban Villa from the competition to force the top youth talent to move to the big 4 sides.

was mentioned earlier in the thread. Ban isnt the word but rumous is UEFA want to rebrand with just U19 teams that qualified for Champions League

said it few pages back. Its probably been the 1 shining light at the club in last 10 years or so. Tony McAndrew is probably one of best youth coaches in Europe. seems like a fair but no-nonsense type guy and just what young players need really

Arsenal coach Burton also committed Arsenal to the NextGen Series amid speculation UEFA will create a rival Champions League-style tournament for Under 19 teams next season.

Following the success of the continental competition, which is in its second year, UEFA are considering setting up their own tournament involving the 32 Champions League qualifiers. It would mean most of the NextGen competitors having to choose between the two to avoid fixture congestion.

However, Burton said: ‘I think it would be a tragedy if this new competition goes ahead. The NextGen has given invaluable experience to my players, we cherish these matches with top-quality opposition and the standard would drop.

‘Our squad would not be big enough to compete in two competitions with all the games and travel.’

sounds like the UEFA competition and nextgen will run alongside each other, will obviously be a huge knock though

The only solution is for uefa to give us a champions league place.

The solution is for UEFA to introduce a ranking system for youth teams, based on performance of the club's youth team not the senior side!

That's too simple a solution though and it will mean some big sides don't make the cut, while Aston Villa does.

"The standard would drop"

It's not the big sides that are the problem, it's the little sides - the NextGen invites big sides - they pick and choose - the Champions league has the thing that annoys big clubs, qualification - they have to include Champions; teams like Nordsjaelland, CFR Cluj and BATE - Arsenal would rather play Ajax and Inter thanks very much.

It's a little bit of a practice this one I think - an independent secures a TV deal and invites the biggest clubs. UEFA says thanks very much but that's our pie and we'll keep it, from now on this will be like the Champions league - the big clubs say hold on a minute now, the problem with the Champions league is that you keep inviting those people who are Champions of countries that aren't very good - we'd prefer big teams from big leagues, so we'll stay with this tournament thanks very much - and UEFA suddenly becomes a lot less powerful than its biggest clubs or its TV companies. In a few years time, we could be talking about the Champions league proper and a European super league.

That said, I think it would be wrong to punish the best youth team in Europe for the sake of the ongoing power struggle between the game and its muscle (UEFA and FIFA) and the clubs and their muscle (SKY, BT and Eurosport) - I like this tournament and there needs to be a way to make it a meritocracy whilst protecting Europe's smaller nations from future omission from larger tournaments.

I fear that we will end up sacrificed to protect a power balance that we've helped create.

Fair play to them.

Means nothing if these lot end up like bannan and albrighton. The Moore brother won the FA youth cup while Rooney went home empty handed. Didn't mean shit for their future though.

Hopefully we might start seeing a bit more quality from our youth products.

Will young players choose clubs based on the competition the youth teams play in?

Surely good young players would pick us over the likes of arsenal or Chelsea due to the better first team opportunities they would get. Of course real top class will end up at big clubs but will these changes really stop us from signing the weimman's and Grealish's?
