John
I have to wonder how vital a scout is for our football club at the moment. With no money to spend it seems a post we do not currently need to fill. Henke may well have identified the players that would have saved our season had they been purchased or may even have identified the two we did sign. But I guess he was employed at a time when we still had the intention to back our manager with some decent funds in transfer windows so those players he might have identified may now be playing for other PL clubs or still with the clubs they were scouted at and it seems we may never know what impact he might have had on our football club had we acted upon transfer suggestions he may have made. mikeyp102
Demetri, John - I can see why you say it wouldn't be important if we aren't signing people. But I would argue it is more vital now.. If we are goin to go down the line of selling best players for a profit (ie benteke when he goes). We will need a scout to locate cheap alternatives which can be brought in, developed and then sold at profit..
Ghost
Totally agree with mikeyp102 on this. Surely having a limited transfer budget would mean a high quality scout would be more important than ever. The ability to find players on the cheap with good potential would be key in getting us back into the Premier League should we go down to the Championship. MagicMushroom
So have we hired a replaceent yet? Vital part of a football club this, especially one where the owner has decided to restrict finance. Good indicator to Lerners long term commitment? AndyBM
with a club in our position, being a premier league club, wouldnt it make sense to have a couple of scouts at the club? one being the head scout/pre match analysist the other being a youth talent scout, exploring the relms of the irish/dutch/french/south america lower leagues etc, or even have part time scouts in those countries who work on commission? magnkarl
Just hire someone to follow Arsenal and Newcastle's scouts around.
Zatman
Just hire someone to follow Arsenal and Newcastle's scouts around. Harry Redknapp is already doing that to Newcastle scouts but inflating the salary. so wouldnt work
Morpheus
Finance withdrawn from the chairman and back to little or no scouting network. Heading one way and fast.
VillaGoMarching
Incredible really, who'd have thought after £200m investment, we'd end back to how we started when Doug left.
AndyBM
we was in a better situation when doug left, the only difference was, was that we had a run down derelict holte end pub and a half finished training ground just out of curiosity, does anybody know what the team was at the point of doug leaving? id like to see the difference in quality over the pitch thanks

VillaGoMarching
Starting to wonder off topic, but you can't really disagree with that assesment, Ron Vlaar and Ciaran Clark compard to Mellberg and Ridgewell. Even Ridgewell being early in his development, was in a better place than Clark is right now.
