This is about as good an appointment as we could have hoped for in truth.

Given some of the dross thats out there looking for jobs and last years debacle I'm delighted.

But you literally cannot please all the people all the time

Still amazed by the negativity of some fans. Its a great day for the club, well it will be if and when they confirm PL as manager but some posters are discussing when he will leave and what a poor appointment he is. Astounding.

Welcome to VT.

Im happy we are getting lambert but I don't think he realises what a mistake he could be making. Our squad is not much better than Norwich but now he has much higher expectations from the owners and fans.

I get so angry when I think about the damage MON has done to our club. Moderators can I start a thread and vent my anger or would it get closed straight away?

I'll leave it to the manager to decide what we need and I won't moan at every link that isn't in my wishlist. It would be refreshing if others followed that approach at least for a while.

The man they call Brian he talk sense.

The man they call Brian, he dreamer.

Seriously, then what the hell would we do?

out of all the candidates mooted, I would rate him as my first choice, so pleased with the appointment.

will now seriously consider replacing my season ticket after 4 years absence.

This is like a no-lose situation for him if you think about it.

Almost certainly can't do worse than mcdick, even a mid-table finish in his first season would be seen as an improvement

He may not be able to lose in the eyes of the board or the fans after McLeish but he has high standards. This is a guy that had a near 50% win ratio at Norwich which considering every season was in a harder league than the last is impressive. He probably won't be happy with himself if he doesn't get at least a 40% win ratio with the players we have..

Paul Lambert has this evening spoken on the phone to at least 2 senior AVFC players.

Fancy teasing us with a clue to who they are? (please)

Or a hint about what the conversation was about?

40% of 38 = 16 games = 48 points

plus an assumed 30% draws = 11 games = 59 points

2007/08 = 7th (17 points off 4th)

2008/09 = 7th (13 points off 4th)

2009/10 = 9th (11 points off 4th)

2010/11 = 6th (9 points off 4th)

2011/12 = 7th (10 points off 4th)

Seriously,,,,,

Shay & Bent I would imagine to make sure they're staying

I think this actually is a huge statement of intent by Lerner.

Everything I've read & heard about Mr Lambert is his

ambition.

Unless AVFC had re-assured him that they too had huge ambitions

to get us back fighting for the top places of the PL, I homestly think

he would have stayed at Norwich for at least another season & gone

elsewhere, to a club that would fulfill his ambition.

You also got to admire someone who hasn't made us wait till he finished

topping up his suntan. Sounds like he's done his homework & wants

to crack on.
