Big_John_10
Since returning to management no other club has picked up more points than Sunderland. That's why it's only a few villa fans that don't rate the guy.
BOF Posted February 3, 2012 Moderator Share Posted February 3, 2012 Since MON took over. Expain it away with easy fixtures all you want, but they still need to get it done. PieFacE Posted February 3, 2012 VT Supporter Share Posted February 3, 2012 Yeah MON will do excellent for them for 2-3 years, I dont think any Villa fan would deny that. Sunderland was the perfect choice for him, massively under-achieving, he comes in, gives them a bit of direction, suddenly he's god. It's when HE realises that he can't take them any further then 8th/7th that he will quit to protect the "MON" image. He just werent good enough to take us any further then he did. He's not THAT great of a manager. He makes average teams play well. He will struggle with anything more then that and that's why he will never manage a "top 4" club, and will never get a team into the top 4. I think he's also in a good position at Sunderland because he wont be allowed to spend that much money, well not the same he spent here, and he royally **** that up in pursuit for a top four finish. He took us as far as he could but he just werent good enough, and i expect no more then a 7th/8th finish for Sunderland. So those who think he's some kind of master manager are just as foolish as those who think he's a shite manager. He's a good solid maybe man. briny_ear
He makes average teams play well. You say that as if it's a criticism but it's actually quite a marketable skill! Almost all premier league chairmen and fans would kill to get such a manager and I guess we would as well just at this moment. I don't understand why so many posters on this site work so hard to denigrate the only decent manager we've had for 10 years.

I didn't mention whether it was people criticising him or defending. Fact of the matter is, every week whether it's in this thread or another, someone will lay the bait and it ends up being the same old 5 or 6 people talking about the same thing as the past few weeks
dudevillaisnice
Almost all premier league chairmen and fans would kill to get such a manager Really? Why is he at Sunderland then? Also when he was out of work West Ham and Sunderland were the only clubs that actually made contact with him.
Big_John_10
Since returning to management no other club has picked up more points than Sunderland. should look up that stat again I did, try reading. I find the MON hate pretty funny. In the whole world of football its just a small group of bitter villa fans that hate him. Neutral fans, most pundits, other managers, lots of ex players all think he is quality. But yes they're all wrong and the few on here are obviously right I would imagine sunderland fans would be pretty happy if they consistently finished top 7/8 and got into europe. Its certainly a better future than us at the moment.

Woodytom
It actually pains me to say but hes NOT as good as I thought he was. Was an absolute hero in my eyes - my dads a leicester fan so liked him from an early age having been pretty close to what he did there. I cant get my head round the complete arse he and Lerner made of it - and echo the 'he will only take them so far' arguement, and that is likely to be consistently 8th. Hate that he wasnt good enough, but at the same time hate that hes somewhere else - though I suppose deep down, Im glad to see him back in football. Great character. Unbelievable motivator. But send him to the shop for a bottle of milk, he would re-mortgage the house and come back with a herd of cows, only then to have his coffee black.
