The other thign that annoys me about switiching players in FIFA...do you ever get it where an AI controlled defender (one of your team) is running after the ball, or player, but when you switch to them to control them (either to put a tackle in or to control the ball) they stop running for a split second. It's small, but it's enough to let the other player get a yard ahead of you.

Yeah and it pisses me right off!

Scrounged some more information on Manager Mode...

We have a roundup details from the podcasts and articles from all over the web about the upcoming manager mode/career mode in FIFA 12.

1. MEDIA INTERACTION

An option will appear on the career mode hub allowing you to address the media before a game. Selecting that option will give you the ability to talk to the press about a variety of different things concerning the upcoming match.

You can talk about..

# Your team

# The opposing team

# The manager of the opposing team

# Any of the players likely to be selected for the match

# Previous results between your team and the opposing team (providing you’ve played them already)

You can “praise” or “unsettle” the opposition with your selected comments.

The media will publish a story in the press and that story can have an effect on the players, this effect will be subtle however.

The “talk to the press” option will only be available for important games

2. INJURIES

# Bigger variety of injuries, true injuries

# You can bring a player back from injury early.

3. COMMENTARY

The commentary will now reflect your season, this will be intertwined with storylines to create a “holistic” experience.

4. TRANSFERS

# The value of each individual player is more realistic, Simon Humber has finely tuned the values.

# Potential now factors into a players market value, some players will be more expensive based off their potential.

# The values are designed to mirror real world values, goalkeepers and defenders will be less expensive than attacking players ect.

# The CPU is a lot more aggressive

# The CPU will bid on players who aren’t transfer listed, so you’ll find yourself having to fend off their offers.

# The bids you receive will be much more in line with the worth of the player

# The CPU’s offers will fluctuate above and below the players value.

# There’s a higher chance that the CPU with return with an offer if you reject them.

# You can stall CPU offers to buy yourself time, their offers will remain valid for a number of days

# Bids are not limited by your budget.

# Loans will now come with the option to purchase

# Promotion rewards you with a larger transfer budget

# Transfer deadline day is now apart of the transfer window

Which leads me to..

5. TRANSFER DEADLINE DAY

Transfer deadline day is a very special day. The transfer window is open for a final 8 hours on this day and clubs are looking to seal those last minute deals. Because of the added urgency, some clubs might be willing to spend more to acquire a player.

On transfer deadline day the career mode hub will mutate into a brand new hub, a broadcast-style hub from which you can manage your transfers. The hub will display the total amount of money that has been spent on transfer deadline day, the hub will also display each and every transfer. This information will be updated as you progress through the hours.

6. YOUTH ACADEMY AND SCOUTING

# You can hire a total of 3 scouts

# Regions can be assigned to each of those individual scouts

# You can scout by position.. CM, RW, ST ect.

# Initial scout reports will be vague, you’ll have to scout a player multiple times to access all of the available information

# Projected ratings are included in the reports, the accuracy of these ratings will increase with each report

# If you scout a player for too long another club may come along and offer him a contract

# Once you’ve purchased the player he’ll be added to your youth academy, from there you can track his development

7. STORYLINES

# There’s 25 different storylines in total

Storylines?! I'm intrigued. :detect:

storylines are things like transfer sagas, players wanting to leave, and all that i believe

bit of a nightmare for them to get permission for a lot of the things apparently

you have to be very careful about things like that, asking permission from players that they are allowed to potentially be used in a transfer request type storyline etc

So the players must be pre-determined rather than being randomly selected by the AI during the course of the game? Interesting.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure they are on the game jacketspuds.

Pires, for example, I'm pretty sure you could sign him on Fifa 11.

I may well be talking out of my arse here

Yeah I'll have to have a look mate.

I'd imagine that they were in some of the later squad updates sent out.

Might just reset the squads and have a look. Good to see though that they're trying to improve to football management aspects of career mode.

Ivy Lane looks pretty similar to Villa Park imo.

**** Ivy Lane. :(

Also I think the new stadiums are the Etihad Stadium

**** Citeh. :puke:

the new Juventus stadium

**** Juve. :drowsy:

and the Vancouver Whitecaps stadium.

...and **** EA for modelling that over Villa Park. :?

@jacketspuds/Stevo985; when you started a new career (manager) mode in 11, the "free agents" list was not actually populated by real-world unattached players; these free agents actually consisted of players that were attached to a club but whose managerial AI determined to release to make room/raise funds for transfers at the start of the new game. This is why the same names keep cropping up as free agents each time you start a new career, and only really vary if you begin a career in a different league/country.

Any real-world free agents don't appear in the game at all, unless you choose to create them and transfer them to the "Free Agent" club prior to starting a new career mode (to touch on Pirès whom you chaps mentioned earlier; he cropped up in the January squad update as an Aston Villa player but prior to this he was in fact not in the game at all, as he was a free agent at the time the game was released).

Also, there are always a number of players that are present in their national team squads (e.g. Ukraine, Romania) that won't actually appear in a career mode because they are either free agents, or the club they are attached to is not actually in the game.

An example of this would be Croatian international Darijo Srna; if you look at Croatia's team in the national squad selection screen, he is in there. However, he will not appear in any career mode as he plays for Shakhtar Donetsk and they are not featured in Fifa 11. What you can do, however, if you do want to play a career mode with Srna (or any likewise player) available is to transfer him from Croatia to the "Free Agent" club. In effect, what this does is duplicate him into a career mode (he will still be in the Croatia team) so that when you start a new game, he will appear as a free agent.

I don't know if this system for Free Agents will change for the next iteration, I suspect not to be honest but if it is unchanged then that's the way to go.

Finally, you can always find a copy of a player that someone has made online in the FIFA Creation Centre (or even make one yourself) and then download them into your game and attach to Free Agents.

It always pisses me off that they can model the cockin barcodes stadium no matter what yet our stadium, you know, the one used by the team that created the **** league system, is ignored.

Surely after all this bloody time they could, at the very least, model all the top tier teams stadiums?! Even as add-on packs?

*EDIT* oof just looked back on the thread and realise I've ranted about this before!

A good number of our players were given the 8 way technology treatment that Arsenal, Chelsea, Lyon, Bordeaux and Juventus were given in Fifa 11, were EA take pictures of the players from 8 different angles and mould exact faces into the game, Given, Marshall, Beye, Herd, Collins, Cuellar, Dunne, Clark, Warnock, Delph, Makoun, Petrov, Bannan, Albrighton, Ireland, Agbonlahor, Heskey and Delfouneso all recieved the treatment along with previous players Luke Young, Reo-Coker, Ash Young, Downing and Pires. Coker, Ash Young, Downing and Pires.

That's a very detailed response Gareth!

I think I was getting confused with that "free agent" list in Manager Mode, I assumed they were actually free agents, and then got confused because I remembered playing with pires.

Would love Manager Mode to be good on this, but from experience, i'll probably play it for a week and then give up.
