What? Are U2s still flying?

Yep.

Once upon a time when I was at Akrotiri, we were in work at the daft o'clock in the morning hour, and our jet was parked up on a pan right by the end of the runway. After a bit a U2 taxied onto the runway (the end we were at) to take off. We were ushered inside our jet and told not to watch. So obviously we watched. It's a proper carry on, one of them taking off. It sat there for a bit, with 2 escort cars - V8 muscle cars of some sort and some goons with machine guns, glaring at us watching them through the door and windows of our jet. The U2 set off down the runway, some red detachable wheels on legs dropped off the wings once it got going a bit...then we heard the engines drop in volume and the goons got in their cars and raced off down the runway after it. The U2 had aborted take-off. The cars have to (I was told) tell the pilot what they can see, cus the pilot can't actually see what's closely in front of and below him.  I think also they may try and position themselves so the wing tip(s) settles onto the roof of the car(s), or maybe that's an urban myth. Anyway it was fascinating to observe and mildly amusing that the angry looking goons had to go and collect their broken aircraft and get it towed back into their hangar..

Lee Sharpe at Man Utd always sticks in my mind for celebrating goals. Probably 92 or 93?

Always thought he'd play for us one day.

So did he, think he almost did, he is a big Villan

I was the Army delegate for Inventory at SCAF so my entire job was making sure that the furniture on camp didn't go AWOL. This included the US hangars which weren't even  allowed to go in .

They probably sit on aliens during NAAFI break for all I know as we were never allowed to go and count anything. We just mailed them a list of items we said they signed for 600 years ago  .They sign it and mail it back with a big "Yup we still got all that shit" and no questions are asked.

Really did enjoy watching those things take off though.

Season after season I’d wait for his arrival as my grandad always reckons he’d sign for us because he was a villa fan apparently.

Eh?

Its just an assumption but perhaps they have a collapse catch on the underside that for whatever reason is difficult to get to, so potentially the user has added that call in a chain to assist. Just a guess.

What is the purpose of this ball and chain on an ironing board?

I thought that was a bed and some kind of sex toy.  Lockdown has been tough. I need help.

A quick Goog^H^H^H Mooney suggests that I am not alone in wondering about the ironing board ball. And nobody really knows.

And everything's a sex toy if you have the imagination.

Apparently it's a safety thing. You put it over the lever to stop kids collapsing it when you're using it.

Yours doesn't appear to have a hole through it though. Hmm.

It does, on one side (not all the way through). But yeah, I guess that would be it.

It's not an Ironing board, it's a surf-board on a stand - when the tide comes in the float rises and releases the board so the surfer can then launch themself into the swell. Don't you know anything?
