Things you often Wonder

Don’t let books written by a Brit in the 1950’s influence your wine / fish choices! I’m not sure we were great at schizz like that in the 50’s we were still spuds and blue nun.

I knew I’d had red with fish, in a proper fish specialist restaurant. Just looked it up in Decanter magazine and yep, it totally depends on the overall meal, acidity, tannins and all that stuff.

That guy is having red wine with fish.

He is either stupid or colour blind.

It’s a plot point in the film. It’s deliberately a dining faux pas.

Not that I necessarily think it is, I don’t have any strong opinion on what wine should be served with what meal.

He definitely shouldn't have ordered the Borscht. I reckon that's what gave him away.

Have I missed a cultural  reference from the 1960s?

If I recall correctly Robert Shaw (blond man) is an enemy spy pretending to be an ally of Bond. This pretence comes with saying his background is similar to Bond’s.

When ordering dinner, in this case fish, Shaw orders the wrong sort of wine for that meal. Bond notes this (raised, quizzical eyebrow) and brings it up later when Shaw reveals his true villainous intent.

Basically along the lines of “Red wine with fish…I should have known…”

Edit - Sorry to anyone who was planning to watch that 60 year old film this weekend and didn’t want that bit given away.

Is it just me, or has the VT font changed on read vs unread topics? Harder to tell them apart as they both look a bit bold.

Or am I imagining it?

I was just staring at the screen, wondering if it was my eyesight.

When did obstruction no longer be part of the game. As I recall if a defender blocked your path to the goal it was an indirect free kick. Now it just seems to be classed as shielding the ball.

If you are shielding the ball you are in possession of it, so obstruction is irrelevant

Do actual Irish people celebrate St Patrick’s day or are they all like this old boy?

(If the answer is yes, Happy St Patrick’s Day to our Irish chums.)

I picture all Irishmen as being like this old boy , every time I read one of @BOF posts , this is the image I have in my head :)

I can say it's a healthy proportion of both types 😂 Most of us are like that aul' boy though. But you do get the flutes who go in to watch the parades. It's a drinking day off (or Cheltenham for me 😁)
