Like I said, I'm just providing information that you don't have. If you want to make an informed decision about one of your managerial candidates, I can actually be of use.

Well the information you're giving is not anything that we don't know or can't google which you have admitted as much yourself. If you look at the poll then only 2% of the voters want Rafa Beneathus so you are preaching to a small section of the site, and finally you do realise that it's not us Villa fans who are making the appointment right ? So I'm still unsure as to your "use".

Isn't it obvious?

If the other 98% did google, they might find themselves joining that 2%. Or they could realise I'm saving them the bother.

Apparently, Rafa is a realistic candidate so if he is appointed, would accurate information not come in useful?

I've just been told today that whatever names have been thrown into the hat - CA has been to BH in the last few days.

Of course the talks with Ancelotti may have come to nothing and he's said "No thanks", but I don't think things are as negative as people

are making out.

Then why did CA issue that statement saying he was taking a year off ?

Would seem a bit odd to go to all that trouble for nothing

Exactly! Surely his statement rules him out??

It wasn't a statement, and could easily have been a journalist in Italy reading this article from the Mirror (not the best source).

http://bit.ly/jUE7C4

Has anyone actually heard an interview with Ancelotti where he say's he is taking 12 months off ? Until I do, i'm keeping an open mind.

Print screening this as I think it's the first time we've ever agreed on anything

True... I also very much agreed with one of Brumerican's posts the other day but didn't get chance to post!

Another point is relying on the bookies as a guide to anything.

Who was No 1 Bookies choice to take over from MON???!!..... Bob Bradley..... instead in steps one Gerrard Houlier!

well if mclaren is given the job i will be more sick thank i was when the french man got the job.

What pisses me off also is that durham on talkshite is saying why would anyone with credibility want to go to a mid-table club. well thats crap... we have been a top 6 club for the past 4 years ( thanks to MON ) but thanks to MON and Houllier ( more houllier and jarjar binks ) we are sat where we are. we have the top 6 players so with the right manager we will be back to top six next season i am sure of it.

RL knows this and will get the best man for the job.... is faulkner i worry about....

but if RL was at VP today interviewing, surely someone has seen someone arrive... someone must of been there being nosey , going to villa village or the ticket office....

Unless they were being interviewed at a top secret location.....

this is driving me nuts.

The other thing is, the club were very quick to say they havent contacted Hughes and he is not in their thoughts. but why havent they said that about mclaren and that is very worrying too

ARGHHHH

Van Gaal would be great. I would imagine he'd be interested considering he managed AZ before Bayern. Terrific record of promoting youth.

I think that too. He has so much experience at the top level in Europe and has bought through some great young talent over the years.

I would imagine he would be interested at having a crack at the Premier League at some point because he has done nearly everything else in Europe

100% agree. Plus, he may feel he has a point to prove after how things ended at Bayern. To think he plucked Muller and Badstuber out of the reserves last year and had complete confidence in them; they're both now established German internationals. I'm surprised his name hasn't been mentioned more in this thread.

Im amazed he hasnt been mentioned more by anyone anywhere given his experience and the fact that he is available.

To be honest when we appointed Houllier that came out of the blue so I'm hoping the same thing would happen again with van Gaal. :thumb:

Since over 50% voted for Ancelotti and Jol I'd guess that if a new poll were done Rafa would score higher.

I think the two at the top of the pile are Ancelotti and Moyes.

After that its Coyle and Martinez.

All this 'doesnt want to get someone who is already employed' is just old re-hashed stuff from last summer when the pool of candidates was really, really underwhelming. When any decent manager wouldnt have walked out on the club a couple of days before season started.

I dont think Rafa is all that bad. I dont think the Hicks and Gillett thing was helping at Liverpool at the time.

I think there are better options out there though because he did have a complete nightmare In Serie A with the European champions Inter

Hughes is ex manure this is why he has a good reputation as a manger because his media mates. Whilst not a bad manager no trophies in 11 years is a poor show and certainly doesn't warrant a reputation worthy of taken over Aston Villa.

Carlo or Rafa please. No mediocreness !!

Like I said, I'm just providing information that you don't have. If you want to make an informed decision about one of your managerial candidates, I can actually be of use.

Actually considering I've lived in Liverpool for 27 years, have a partner whose entire family are reds (season ticket holders), must have at least 100 mates & colleagues who live here and are season ticket holders, have a boss who advertises at Anfield and has a box (he also used to live next door to Steven Gerard, Robbie Fowler & Stephan Henchoz, Andy Carroll is moving in very soon, next week possibly), I live no further than 300 yards from Steven Gerard, Joe Cole and Glenn Johnson also live in the village, I think I can do the ins and outs of LFc as a specialised subject on mastermind and would have learned it all by osmosis, so I find your helpfulness rather irritating and patronising, not to mention unrepresentative of the average Liverpool ST holder, most of whom wanted to see the back of Benitez in the end and he only stayed in their affections as long as he did because of his battle with the Americans. Admittedly some still liked him (The Spirit of Shankly lot mainly) but they are a small section of your fanbase, so please less of the pontificating patronising posts ta

Says who ?

And the "accurate"information you provide would be irrelevant as we fans aren't involved in the hiring process.

Seriously, what could we "use" that information for ? To change the poll from 2% to 3% ?

Our very own Bickster and Chindie have given me far more interesting information about Benitez than you have and they're Villa fans . Benitez is nothing without his old assistant, but you don't mention that very often do you ? (which is strange for someone with the inside track on Beneathus. )

VT is only a tiny percentage of Villa fans and of that tiny percentage , only 2% would want him as our manager .

You're fighting a losing battle and calling people "**** mugs" whilst doing so .

He also looks funny, an almost bulbous head. Even if we were losing we could turn to the dugout and laugh.

Steve MacLaren is the jumping lizard: Aston Villa Football Club is the the news anchor. About sums up my reaction...

http://bit.ly/k2eJkS

(Hopefully a bit of light relief in these stressful times!)

We have to laugh, chaps, and stay strong together! :)

Thanks for this, now I cant stop watching it over and over!

The reaction has me in stitches, guy looks like hes being electrocuted.

Imagine the newsflash: MacLaren appointed...

"Ker-ker-tch-tch-ker-tch! WHAT THE FU... GET THIS THING OFF ME MAN!" (12 seconds)

Exactly!

My opinion hasn't altered one jot from last night, I still expect Carlo Ancelotti to be unveiled as the new manager of Aston Villa.

Admittedly, I'm aware of one other manager definitely being in the frame. That person is Rafa Benitez, but I can't say how I know.

Thanks for proving my point.

Search the forum and you'll find I've debunked the Pako Ayesteran myth at least twice already. I'll do it again just for you:

Pako was the fitness guy. A bloody good one. And popular. But a bit of basic research will tell you that he left in the summer of 2007 and Liverpool's best form under Rafa came in 2009. That was when we finished second, twatted you lot 5-0, twatted Real Madrid 5-0 on aggregate and twatted the Mancs 4-1 at Old Trafford.

Where was Pako then?
