So the same people who were calling for his head now think he's the dogs bollocks :|

I've backed him all the way and take great smugness from that.

just reading the after match comments from our manager proves to me he has a clear understanding of what's going on.....and he is fearless about what he says.

Houllier may make changes tonight as he contemplates five games in 14 days, yet he will not tolerate any signs of displeasure from a player.

'If that happens, I bomb him out,' Houllier admitted. 'You can't prepare a game with somebody who is pulling a face, because it drains the mental energy. There was a time when even players who were playing were moaning, whining and unhappy. It's something I had to overcome, yes.

'We get results if we are together. From the start of the year we have had five games - won two, drawn two and lost one. The important thing is work and enjoyment. It's about togetherness. If you don't enjoy, leave, go.'

Suppose comments sums up what we all believed about players being unhappy. Does seem though that now the majority are happy and results are going to come. I like his thoughts about players being happy.

I've backed him all the way, too. Admittedly, I didn't like the whole affair regarding the Liverpool game, but I certainly wasn't calling for his head and said that he should be given time. This was always going to be a transitional season, and I like what he's trying to do with the club. Whether or not he will be ultimately successful is still to be seen, but I'm looking forward to finding out and fully support GH.

It would be interesting if you started this thread again with a poll and see what the percentage would be for and against now. I think there would be a big difference.

You could edit the name of this one with date to and from and the new one date from now.

Would the Mods allow? If so do it!

Always backed him as I think every manager deserves a few transfer windows to try and prove himself. I find it very hard to dislike him watching his interviews as well, really comes accross as a top bloke for me even if others don't agree.

Hmmm be much of the same I think, still not sure about him but can't see us getting relegated....a lose although extremely frustrating, I don't think is as damaging as what it could of been had we not got 3 points vs City but will be very frustrating.

A draw would be okay. Not bad result but not exactly 'good point' territory either. A win for me takes us out a relegation battle and puts us in a battle for European spots given our run in.

Gerard shows Aston Villa rebels Hou's boss - Frenchman reveals strict side in battle for control of club

By JANINE SELF

Last updated at 7:37 AM on 25th January 2011

Gerard Houllier would rather crack a smile than the whip but was left with no alternative when it came to taming Villa's dressingroom rebels. If the mutineers had succeeded, Houllier could have walked the plank by now, pushed over the edge by players who were not doing it for him.

As Aston Villa target their first back-to-back league wins of the season, the manager is in full command of his bridge. A verbal flogging has sufficed, and a group of malcontents is becoming a united squad.

Defender Stephen Warnock has been banished to the reserves as a reminder that beneath the Gallic charm lurks a hugely focused Frenchman. Meanwhile, Richard Dunne is back in favour, apologies presumably accepted.

Bolstered by the £24million arrival of striker Darren Bent, Houllier heads to Wigan in buoyant mood after Saturday's battling 1-0 win over Manchester City. City have provided season high and low points for Villa.

The abject 4-0 Christmas defeat at Eastlands left Houllier on the brink. Since then there have been laudable draws against Chelsea and Birmingham, and a tricky FA Cup tie at Sheffield United negotiated safely.

Warnock could see that as a personal message. Stephen Ireland, too, is not wanted. The midfielder is injured, but Houllier does not believe that will prevent a loan move if another club is interested.

Bent's scoring debut was a huge bonus on Saturday. Houllier has plans to involve his other January signing, Jean II Makoun, although he may only start on the bench. Striker Emile Heskey is back after suspension for his red card against Sunderland, when he petulantly shoved Jordan Henderson.

Houllier revealed Heskey had said sorry. 'He said, "I'm sorry I let you down".' Villa have failed to win two successive league games since April, under Martin O'Neill, when they managed three.

Houllier's team are three points above the drop zone, which makes the game against third-from-bottom Wigan even more crucial.

The manager admitted: 'We need to keep the momentum going and capitalise on Saturday's result.'

The thread wasnt even a poll to start with, but got sabotaged once everybody started throwing their toys out of the pram. Out of order if you ask me.

Will take a little longer to change the T to an I in my sig

You want him sacked now.

Wouldn't that do more harm than good?

Jez, I've already asked Richard the same question at 10:07 last night; get in the queue! :winkold:

Assuming you haven't forgotten to change it, what would your wish achieve at this point of the season?

I welcomed him at first, then started to doubt him after all the bad results. Now I am fully in his camp, especially because he looks to have a strong vision on how things should be done and because it has become clear that he inherited a very difficult situation with a lot of moaning players just happy to get their pay checks.

Ive said sack him - almost since day 1 - and I still want a new bloke in charge for next season.

Delighted to be proved wrong - if we start touching the top 6. But until then he's under delivering considering past performance of same squad.

:?

So, if we do well for the last third of the season and finish mid table (but don't start 'touching the top 6', you would sack him in the summer? Even if the first half of the season was very poor (and the mitigating circumstances are well documented and understandable), you would sack him - just as things were 'looking up'? "Cutting nose off to spite face" springs to mind!

Like this. Reassuring in an odd way.

And there's no way we will not win tonight. I'v never been so sure of a result before it happened. 1-3 to villa. :thumb:

I hope you're right. This is a must not lose game but a win would be superb and really take the pressure off our next game at United.

His transfer policy has been impressive so far. He has went for 2 big enough targets and got them and looks like he is not afraid to mix foreign with local signings. Which the last manager didnt really try.
