Fabian Delph

If he signed his contract without the clause, and City came in with a bid of at least double the 8 million, we'd have some consolation but this situation is frankly bullshit.

If that happened, and there were no comments about loyalty, I'd say good luck to him. But acting like he is doing us a favour? He is quite simple a word removed.

He didn't have to do it, he would have got a higher salary as a completely free agent , the 8 m has paid for his replacement.....how many other players have signed a new contract with 5 months left on their old one?

he probably got a large signing on fee though for that contract plus the 10% for not asking for a transfer

So we avoided relegation by the skin of our arses and now our best 2 players are going or gone.

The squad is starting to look pretty bare across the board.

We lost Delph, Cleverley, Vlaar, likely that we'll lose Benteke too. Even with Richards and Gueye coming in we are way worse off than last season so far, we need a few more signings.

We don't even know if Guzan is in his plans.

Apparently we might play 3 at the back, which wasn't popular under Lambert, but is now ok. So...

-----------------------------keeper

-------------Richards----Okore----Clark

Bacuna----------------------------------------Richardson

-----------------------------Sanchez

-----------------------Gueye-----midfielder

-----------------Grealish-------------attacking mid

------------------------------striker

If lucky maybe top 12. More likely relegation trouble as we won't have a big enough squad.

I'm hugely disappointed in him. It's crap like this that makes you wonder why you bother investing your time, money and most importantly your emotions in these players when they can say one thing one day and do the complete opposite a few months later. I don't begrudge him his move to Man City but after what he said it is so hard to swallow.

It is not just about Delph though is it. Man City is now a huge step up from Aston Villa. We are not even remotely close to them as they are in a different stratosphere. Where as only 4 or 5 clubs in this country were a step up from us not so long ago you can now put that figure in double figures and for this club with its fantastic history, tradition and fan base that just can't be right.

i was worried about losing delph and benteke along with the other players that had left because i just do not think we will replace them with quality. i was worried about next season anyway but now im even more worried, i also think this will make benteke want to leave even more.

sad to see him go, understand him leaving, bigger wage, better team, he of course wants to try to win trophies. But I just wish he had not talked the way that he did, making us believe he wanted to stay here forever. Therefor I will be booing him on his return, for talking shit.

If he had signed the contract, shut up and then left, then I would be more understanding.

But like Cleverley, we need midfielders that contribute, therefor them two leaving gives us a create opportunity to set new standards to our midfielders, that only running is not enough, they must also contribute with goals and assists.  (excepts if you are a defensive midfielder)

I'm defending him on it because people are being absolutely pathetic about it

lol, okie doke

He's being called "scum" for essentially moving to a job with a bigger company for more money. I assume you've stuck with the paper round you got when you were 10 for your entire professional life?

You've completely missed the point if you think this.

I've missed nothing apart from the memo that it was okay to personally abuse someone who has been offered the deal of a lifetime

Yes, I'm sure he'll be sobbing all the way to the bank. Come off it mate, whatever he is, he's not a victim

Like many others have said, I don't feel angry with him for wanting to go to a team challenging for honours year in year out, but for him to say what he did and then leave at the drop of a hat hurts, really hurts.

This transfer window became a lot more important....

Benteke is off as soon as a club bids his release clause its just a matter of time, no matter if Delph stays or goes.

I can't believe this shiit! He only signed a contract a few months ago. Now he's going for 8 f**king million? Rewatch his video after he signed the contract...I'm a Villa man etc.

Absolutely disappointed and gutted about this.   :(

We were best of the rest I'm afraid, which is why we've probably been hit the hardest by modern football. I still love Villa, watching every game and preseason but I can't ever let myself get carried away thinking we might have a chance of getting back to the top any time soon. It's like going to Vegas, you're going to get done over in the long run because the house always wins, but it can be a lot of fun along the way. Just don't get upset when the pretty girl you met runs off with a casino owner.

Players these days have zero integrity, full stop.  Yep money rules, but its poisoning the game in so many ways.  The self-seeking, mercenary and underhand actions of players is an insult.  I wouldn’t mind if they were open and upfront about it.  But they say they love the club, they make grand pronouncements about their commitment, they provide bullshit sound bites about how things will be different or better next time, next game or next year.  Of course, we buy into it because we are desperate to believe players see the club as we do.  Kids put their pictures up and print their names on their shirts.  Then with no compunction they fu@k off at the first opportunity to earn a few more quid  (which they don’t need) and/or to play in Europe (like that is all that matters anymore).  The way I am feeling now, I hope we sell Beneteke and anyone else who wants to go.  I would much rather have 11 players who want to play for the shirt – at least until they get a better offer that is!

Rant over. Time for drink!
