Popular Post AndyClarke
Go and watch the lad play, I don't mean on the telly, I mean go to Meadow Lane and you'll see what the lad is all about. He has had a great season for Notts, most opposition players attempt to kick the shit out of him but he keeps coming back for more. A tremendous talent with more skill and technique than anyone in the current first team squad, whether he can translate that is yet to be proven.
Con
37 games 6 assists 5 goal Notts County in the relegation zone. Hardly Eden Hazard is he? Or Christian Eriksen. That's why I picked up on his lack of long range goals. It's something he doesn't have yet. If he was good at this, with the time and space he can create for himself in Division one he'd have twice as many goals as he has now. Is Grealish a set piece specialist - does he take shots from direct free kicks? If he doesn't have this then what does he do, exactly. Control the ball, stop, spin 180 degrees fall over and win a foul. However, I'm prepared to accept Notts County are just not a very good team to play for and have been holding his goals and assist numbers back. Con
It sounds like you've never seen him play. I have but not for Notts County. He sucks players in with his close control, his back turned against them, then suddenly tries to give them the slip and gets brought down and wins a foul. He shoots like Gary Lineker but being on the wing rather than 5 yards out he is rarely in position to score. Won't head the ball or tackle. Not ridiculously quick. At his age Gareth Bale was curling in free kicks from 25 yards. Grealish is not a set piece taker for Notts County. Okay, these criticisms might seem contradictory from me as I did just earlier worry about him going to a Manchester club. He is still our best prospect. Just trying to get a grasp of why so we can sort the hype from the reality. Is he really going to play on the wing for us? If he has good composure and can finish inside the penalty box and is disciplined at closing down, would he be better converted into a striker, like Jay Rodriguez.
lexicon
Eden Hazard scored 8 and assisted 8 in 40 appearances in his first full season of football, aged 18.
Isa
Let's not forget that he is playing for one of the worst teams in the division also.

He's been doing a really good job regardless - the fact that people want to write off or run down youth players and academy graduates is a constant source of disappointment that I have in our fans. Hardly Eden Hazard is he? . . . and as our club is stocked full to the brim with players as good as, or even better than, Eden Hazard we might as well release him on a free. Honestly, and I know we've been here before but do you watch football or do you just analyse pro-zone stats after a match and put together a picture of the game from that? Really not trying to be an arsehole though will no doubt be flagged up as one

Hes right jack hasnt been Eden Hazard for Notts this season but then again notts as a team haven't been consistent enough in all fairness. I would of course have liked him to contribute more but for his first competitive football season I'd say he's been pretty good. Then again im going to be a little biused aha

Con
BTW I don't disagree that he's been excellent and is our best prospect - just in case anyone thought I was intending to "run down our youth players." It's an excellent season. Just the idea that he is the next Eden Hazard or Garath Bale is not justified on the basis of his first professional season. Personally, I'd wanted a few long shots to go in.
Popular Post tarjei
I'm sure you have no bad intentions, Con, but the opinions you have and how you word them at times.. Often it sounds like you think football is played on a spreadsheet. But it's fluid and flowing and swayed by emotion and desire more than anything else. You can't really nail anything down with stats, and you'll never get a true picture of a players ability and contribution to a team until you see him play. Assists? Sure. What about assisting an assist, what about switching the play, opening up space for team mates, drawing the attention of the opposition defence, etc, etc. Looking at Benteke's numbers this season you'd assume he was an average striker, but we all know what he can do in a confident side playing positive football. Perhaps long shots and free kicks are not his forte, but so what.. he seems to have good vision and the technical ability to create space and pick a pass. The right player is only right if you play to his strengths. Personally I loathe seeing half our team so trigger happy from long range.. Occasionally it results in a great goal, but more often the not it's a wasted chance and possession given away. I've not seen him play a full game ever, but the little I've seen has me very excited about his future.
