Very very late to it, but managed to get hold of Apple TV yesterday, and wondered about Ted Lasso, as I'd heard about it. The premise sounded a bit silly, and I thought it would be a hokey American take on football which would seem to be wholly ridiculous to actual football folk.

I watched 7 episodes of the first series back to back. It's absolutely fantastic. One of the most positive uplifting things I've seen in years, and straight into my top 5 TV shows.

1st was great,  2nd season was OK, then it got bad,  real bad .

Started Succession today, first episode definitely grabbed me. They all seem like words removed so that's a positive.

In addition watched the first episode of season 5 of What we do in the shadows (via nefarious means) and there are some great lines in it as well as Colin Robinson back to being Colin Robinson.

We're just into season 2 now. It's absolutely brilliant. And a lot funnier than I'd expected.

I wish I had the ability to forget I ever watched Succession and start it all over again. So so good.

Mostly going to rain for the foreseeable future here so just started on a re-watch of Taboo. Quite liked S1 from memory but don't really remember any detail. Show seem to be cursed with Covid and now the Hollywood strike so S2 will probably never happen :D

After that I'm going for a re-watch of Penny Dreadful.

It's definitely at It's best when it's taking the pee out of itself.

Finished Succession last week. Thought it had a bit of a lull around the end of S2 but 3 and 4 were excellent.

Also watched Champion, all episodes on iplayer - would recommend - rinsed through it in a few days and a great soundtrack too.

Did The Afterparty ever get a mention on VT?

I only recently discovered it and binged the whole of season 1 last week. Big, silly, daft whodunnit, told from the perspective of each character episode by episode. Thoroughly enjoyable.

And I now have a strange crush on Tiffany Haddish.

What would people compare 'Banshee' to?

'Fargo', say? Or 'Ozark'?

I like Banshee, but it's totally different to those sort of shows.

It's cheesy american shit to be honest. But it's entertaining enough to get away with it.

So it's a bit like Ozark, if it was directed by Michael Bay

I think I'll give it a miss, then.

Banshee was a Cinemax show, also known as Skin-emax, HBOs sister company that did more low brow (aka soft porn and cheap action film) stuff, but one where Cinemax was attempting to make it's own content in the HBO style. As such it's a really well made but knowingly pulpy show - tits, sex, violence but without the veneer of respectability that HBO's stuff has.

It's a really good show but you have to go into it knowing that's what it is. It's Ozark with a more grimy, Pulp Fiction-y, cynical edge and a pointedly 18 rating.

Watched the first two episodes of Sixth Commandment last night. I don't really remember the crime when it happened but he is one twisted mo fo. Timothy Spall is brilliant in it.

Yeah, we just watched ep1. l'm slightly surprised I don't remember the real case, it would have been quite newsworthy.

Agreed. It’s not exactly news that Spall can act but this really is a masterclass.

Did anyone else notice the Claret Villa sign on the garage door with the light blue background in the first episode of the second season of Snowfall? I met a fella a few months ago at a Premier inn in Longbridge who works in the film industry in California and he flies back here to watch the Villa regularly, I wonder.

Thought I would start to watch Snowfall again as I  didn't get to finish the show first time around. I don't think any director has captured the essence of Downtown Los Angeles as good as John Singleton, such a sad loss.

If I went to the street with the palm trees and stopped for photos would I make it back to tell the tale 🤔
