Just need these early batsman to keep a clear head and stick around.

This match has shown that the ball seems to be unplayable for 20-30 overs then becomes piss easy to bat and score.

They key will be to have enough wickets in hand for when the batting gets easier.

New Zealand are lucky. They can only lose 3-0. Whereas every time we go to Australia we lose 4-0 or 5-0. It's not fair. The Ashes should be shortened to a three match series and then we won't get damn good thrashings anymore. (We'll just get mini thrashings, which are much more preferable).

England do well considering we play with 9 players.

Might as well have a couple of wheelie bins as openers.

That's not fair on the opposition bowlers.

How can they hit the wicket? (Unless it's a very windy day and the bin moves or unless there was some absolutely incredible spin bowling). And they can't get lbw either. They'd have to just go for slip catches I suppose.

They should block exceptionally well but a high probability of being out WBW.

Yeah, they should block etremely well, but knowing England our wheelie bin openers would somehow manage to f*** it up. 😑

Wbw. 🤔  Wheel before wicket?

The lids would flap around and edge it to slip for a duck.

Wheelie wheelie rubbish.

Leach is my motm. Hes bowled beautifully in both innings.  Cant be too critical of the openers. Lees was out to an unbelievable runout and Crawley played some nice shots off Boult but gave it away against the spinner. Pope has played very nicely and Root is Root. Big mistake New zealand not picking a frontline spinner. Bracewell hasnt even been part-time standard this match. Mind you dont understand why the slip is so wide. Root would have been a gonner if in the right place.

This weather makes it more interesting than would be preferable today, if (when they get going) England were to lose an early wicket it could make life very difficult.

On the surface it looks simple, 8 wickets in hand, two set batsman at the crease and only 113 odd runs to knock off but England lose wickets in bunches and the weather will definitely favour the bowlers (at the moment anyway).

Looks like Morgan is retiring then. Big shoes to fill, what an incredible job he has done.

Well done England, what a turnaround! 1 win in 17 and then 3 in a row and against the side that were number one in the world last year. 👏👏👏

Now there's the challenge starting on Friday of not losing a home series to India. But what about when we next play  in our dear old Australia... Will Ben and Brendon manage to avoid yet another 5-0 or 4-0 defeat? That's the main thing I want them to achieve in the next few years, to stop humiliations like that down under. Even 4-1 or 3-0 would be an improvement! (Good grief). 🙄

To be fair to the previous regime, it was 3-1 in India last year.

I also think that 1 win in 17 stat that keeps being bandied around in the media is a little disingenuous - obviously it’s not a good look, but you can bend stats to prove a point… in the previous 12 tests before that, they’d won 8/12 (2 draws 2 defeats). Leaving out the Sri Lanka series and first game in India in particular doesn’t really make sense (would make it 4 wins in 20) as after the game in Chennai there was a lot of positivity surrounding the team.

Anyway, all in the past now. Love the form that YJB is in at the moment, mad that we’ve cruised to two chases of almost 300 inside two weeks, they really have imported our white ball confidence. Speaking of, have to say Morgan’s legacy must be up there with any English player in any sport?? Something very English about bowing out shortly after getting a golden duck amidst a world record score too
