ml1dch
I don't like the way he has gone back to Portsmouth for so many players via his best pal and come away with deals like Krancjar for £2m. Turning down a bid of £12m when he was Portsmouth manager and then signing him for £2.5m when he leaves. Classy.
VillaChris
I think that was as Pompey still owed money to Spurs for various other deals. As they were unhappy Begovic turned down Spurs to go to Stoke.

Zatman
Is Gudjohnsen their Heskey. A striker that doesnt score a lot of goals, best years behind him and a player they signed when in 4th spot and who will be blamed for their slip out of that spot. ryanvilla_1994
ive been thinking, if downing had signed for spurs in the summer and his form was the same as it is now, would this thread be full of comments saying how spurs payed over the odds for an average player ?? Now I can understand every one on this list with the exception of candleface, even Keane who must have earned most of his as a player, but why is he above the likes of Big Sam managed clubs of a similar size even had a spell with Newcatle, guess they must have payed similar wages to spuds, Woy Hodgeson, managed prem clubs and international teams, Mcleish, managed rangers, potato head must be similar to keane and Zola too as far as I can recall he has one one trophy and this is the first large club, well spuds, he has managed

Turning down a bid of £12m when he was Portsmouth manager and then signing him for £2.5m when he leaves. Classy. Sorry, but what's wrong with this? When he was Portsmouth manager, he deemed Kranjcar an important part of his squad and didn't want him to leave, so rejected a bid. Then, as Spurs manager, he made a bid for the player that helped ease some of the debt by giving them money and cancelling out the debt Portsmouth owed Spurs. Or are you saying that, because he rejected a £12m bid, he should have offered £13m+ to Portsmouth for him? And for the record, it's Daniel Levy that deals with the transfers at Spurs, not Redknapp.

SimplySpurfect
And Spurs are a long ball team now? You guys have short memories. Go back and watch any of our games from 2009 and see how often the long ball gets played. It's only been the last four or five weeks that we have resorted to using the long ball to Crouch more often. And that's because teams now play against Spurs with the intention not to lose, so sit back and defend for the majority of the match, Villa included. And the reason for the excess of long balls is the loss of Lennon as an attacking outlet and Modric's lukewarm form since returning from injury, meaning Crouch is our only decent outlet for a quick counter attack at the moment. Lennon will be back in a week or two, and Spurs' style of play will no doubt return to how it was pre-2010.

We were already on the decline before Gudjohnsen was brought in. If anything, he was brought in in the hopes that his experience and winning mentality would help the soft mentality we have at Spurs. Because for all the talent we currently have at the club, we don't have anyone who's "been there, done that" and has the confidence to push for a higher spot. No he would have given them the much needed balance they lacked last season, and still do when they play Modric out left. I don't think so. He would've faced the same problems that Bentley did in that his style of play wouldn't have fit with the rest of the team. His crossing ability would've gone to waste and he'd have to adapt his game to fit in with the game style, as Bentley has recently started to do. Stevo985 Posted February 16, 2010 VT Supporter Share Posted February 16, 2010 You answered your question with your own question. Spurs are a long ball team NOW. Well done on your play in 2009. It's 2010, and you play **** long ball.
