Designer1 Posted June 8, 2012 VT Supporter Share Posted June 8, 2012 Tarantino has been banging on about doing a western for absolutely years. wan't Kill Bill part 2 in essence a western? You could argue that many of the scenes (and the overall narrative theme of revenge) were indeed from a myriad of spaghetti western movies, albeit with a different setting. There was also a helluva lot of Kurosawa Samurai movie in there too, not to mention anime and 70's kung fu (Sonny Chiba anyone?)

PieFacE Posted June 8, 2012 VT Supporter Share Posted June 8, 2012 I'm a bit of a sucker for animated films and came across this trailer Thought it looked quite good, any film with Bowzer and Dr Robotnik is good by me!
Chindie Posted June 8, 2012 VT Supporter Share Posted June 8, 2012 I kinda like Tarantino. His biggest failures are the films where he's unable to contain his enthusiasm for genre That's the thing with him though isn't it? For all intents and purposes, 99% of his movies have been him showing his love for film and it's genres. He's a guy that lives and breathes cinema. He just occasionally needs to come away from being a fan to concentrate on being a director and writer. Like I said though, i've always been a fan. Yeah the appeal of Tarantino is obviously in his love of cinema (and his eagerness to show it off) but the problem comes when he can't... let it go. It's less of a problem with Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction but as he grew more confident and accepted it gets worse. Kill Bill, great film(s), I personally like them, but even as someone who appreciates that film it's self indulgent in the extreme. Inglourious Basterds suffers from it too, again I like/love the film, but it's a film that could have been trimmed with ease, there are many scenes that are allowed to just run and run. I think you can already see Django suffering from similar, even in that trailer. Hopefully his problems with the cast (which in 1 case at least has supposedly lead to 2 characters being melded together in the script) have forced him to be a little more taut. Designer1 Posted June 8, 2012 VT Supporter Share Posted June 8, 2012 Nowhere near as good as this directors previous effort (House of the Devil). It has a really decent set-up in the first third; interesting, reasonably sympathetic characters, a decent back story to the main premise but then...well, apart from a decent cameo from Kelly McGillis, it just sort of stalls and fails to deliver on the early promise. Why can't contemporary movie directors grasp the concept of horror? So many new horror films fail at the absolute basic level...being able to scare. It's either the world being too desensitised or me being too cynical.
leemond2008
Just got back from watching snow White and the huntsman It wasn't actually that bad man, quite enjoyed it actually. Plus charlize theron looks amazing even as an old woman The bird I went to see it with thought the film was great she **** loved it. If I see one more trailer for batman TDKR though I think I'm gunna explode it is killing me now really really can't wait for that I've had a bit of a cinema spree just lately ive done the avengers twice, Prometheus, snow White and the huntsman, and I'm going to see Ill manors and batman. I usually only make a few trips to the cinema a year if there is a film I really wanna see but I'm quite liking my little fad at the moment
CarewsEyebrowDesigner
House of the Devil was one of the best horrors in ages. A slow burner.
Designer1 Posted June 8, 2012 VT Supporter Share Posted June 8, 2012 House of the Devil was one of the best horrors in ages. A slow burner. It was great wasn't it? Really tapped into the 70's psychological horror (along with elements of Rosemary's Baby etc). Which is why I was pretty disappointed with his (Ti Wests) follow up. mjmooney Posted June 9, 2012 VT Supporter Share Posted June 9, 2012 Watched the second half of Tintin (the bit I'd slept through) the morning, and I've decided that it's excellent - the reviewers were talking bollocks. Looking forward to the sequel (presumably "Red Rackham's Treasure"). Super-8 next. Not expecting much, but we'll see.

The best Tarantino film is True Romance, a film he did not direct, but he wrote the script before he was famous. I think he sold it for only 10 000. One of my favourite movies.
